OrangeFusion sounds catchy, but aren't we trying to break away from the sound/look/color etc. of the old system?

I think I would just prefer fuse cms

Plus you could give it any colour. No limitations there.

fusion - coming together - information and presentation - community etc..

I have to admit, I think that Tango is starting to catch. Don't get me wrong,
I sort of hated it at first, but I like the connotation to airports, movement and travel
more than the dancing thing. And I guess when you think about it and imagine
the first time someone called Mambo - Mambo, it was probably a pretty odd
sensation. Any new name for something that is well known is going to take
some time getting used to and not everybody is going to love it at first.

So I am guessing that Tango is going to get stronger support, but at the same
time I would like to throw out a few words (not as specific suggestions, but as
inspiration).

fusion
open
space
sphere
span
stratus
vista
unite
verge
scribe
scene
use
deep
merge

Name it now. Today. And get that name out while you still can.

Or spend the next few months whining about how everyone's still going to MamboServer.com, cuz no one knows what yours is called anymore.

Tick tock.
Very true.

I have to admit Mambo did not please me much when I had to try to explain what it was and what it meant and why it was named after a dance and even worse after a snake.  Cute or menacing does not play well in the corporate world.  Did anyone notice the snickers when Microsoft named it's new OS Vista?

I submit this for consideration.
Open Source Web Content Management System
This completely describes what it is and what it does.
oswebcms.com, .net and .org are all open

osweb.com .net and .org are all taken

Just had a look and phpwebcms.com .net and .org are open as well although phpweb.com etc. is taken.
Another look and webstercms.com .net and .org are open but webster.com is taken

I don't think the name should be decided by a poll.  It will take far too long and by the time it is finalized the domain name may not be availalbe.  The Dev Team should take this on.  If we trust them to build the system so we should trust them to give it a name as well.

Cheers

Once it is named is there anyway to be notified by email? I would very much appreciate it!

Went to http://www.botablog.com and subscribed to http://www.opensourcematters.org/index2 ... &no_html=1 for email notification when any news is posted.  I also assume that any name annoucements will be post on the frontpage of this site first.

Well it's the weekend so news have slowed down. I guess it won't make a difference whether or not the name is determined today or on Monday early morning. I agree with ¥ though. Every news brief that comes out without a name, the potential for branding falls exponentially.

What about MosFox then? There's a lot gained if we used MOS in the name. I believe RHUK posted a few reasons why it's important to keep the MOS-naming alive.

MosFox!

The dev team have so much on their plates at the moment that the least we can do is make sure the names we put forward as suggestions are both appropriate and available.
Yeah, you are absolutely right. But lets check all major domains (GTLD and preferably also TLD's) for availability. Dot-Com alone is surely not enough!

Or what about OSMOS? Pity that de .Com is already taken; but is that realy a bridge too far? :-\

If someone has already mentioned this, forgive me...

"Tango" also means "I have" (like "I have my book" = "Tango me libro") in Spanish.

OSM is already in use and could be subject to copyright/trademark issues.  There also seems to be a majority who wish to stay away from the rather limiting cms.
No osm domains available either, unfortunately.

I've been trying to think of a name which is unique (pretty hard to do these days!) and have come up with a derivative that could bear some consideration...

GAION

The name has no connotations, is not apparently subject to any copyright or trademark limitations (including trademarking by us, if we chose to use it).
The domains are all available, apart from .com which has been taken 8 months ago but is not yet in use.

Gaion is a masculine derivative of Gaia, the Earth Goddess.  Took it from the Gaia Hypothesis.  The Gaia Hypothesis proposes that our planet functions as a single organism that maintains conditions necessary for its survival.
I see opensourcematters in a similar light.  One community maintaining conditions necessary for the survival of the project.

The name is completely unrelated to Mambo, does not contain CMS (therefore does not limit the development of the project) and would create a unique identity with a name which would easily move between the various markets the project serves/will serve in the future.

What do you think?
