Is joomla XHTML and CSS Standard Compatible?

Post by millisami » Mon Jan 08, 2007 3:50 pm

Hello,
I'd posted this topic at General Questions thread but I didn't get a single reply back.
So I'm posting it here once more.

I donwloaded the latest joomla and installed it.
Everytihing fine. But when I looked at the HTML source, its table based. Is there any version specific of joomla that is totally XHTML/CSS??
Drupal has migrated to XHTML.
Is joomla going to be XHTML or is it already?

Thanks

Simple answer is 'no' in Joomla 1.0.x due to backwards compatibility.

If you are looking for table-less design then use Accessible Joomla!: http://forge.joomla.org/sf/projects/accessible_joomla
Otherwise, wait until Joomla 1.5 and use template override settings. A little bit more effort to achieve it (personally, i feel it should be the other way round - overrides to keep backwards compatibilty).

If backwards compatibility is that important but keeping with today's standard is as well. Maybe the core team should offer a patch package for those that would want this for building new sites and not use old free or commercial templates. so the choice is there without comprising backward compatibility, however this may not be feasible due to time and energy that the core team has as Joomla 1.5 is a high priority right now.
