In Greek it's called "moutza" and it has 2 possible origins:

1. In the Byzantine era, during a trial, and if the tried person was found guilty, the judge placed mud on his face with his hand, fingers open. So, "moutza" was related to a gesture of disgrace.
2. In Ancient Greece, during the Eleusinian Mysteries, this was the gesture of priests, accompanied by "Curses", towards the Evil.

Source: Greek Wikipedia

Nowadays, it is the last gesture before a real fight starts... Seen mainly during football matches, and while driving....

Wow.... this is all really usefull for my knowledge of ancient cultures (Greek, African, Native American!). I like the simple idea behind the logo, though to me it looks a bit like a murder scene... ;)
Almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea

Well... true and... not true!

The Greek moutza gesture is not a flat open palm but a thrown one directed at the people concerned. At an angle.

This is a precise picture of the movement:

Nothing to do with the fully open hand directed to no-one and showing peacefull intention in any culture (hand empty from concealed weapon).  ;)

Concerning the color, it may be easily changed, as discusssed before.

Here is a variation to get rid of the "bloody" aspect (in fact iron oxyde pigments in the original hand print):

To tell you the truth, these were side aspects for me, as I think that it is the concept itself that matters here, not the final rendering. Font may change. Colors can be added at will. I trust the "design" team on this.

(Also I must say that when I get that type of job, I have much more time and feedback from the client to improve/adapt on an accepted concept ;) )

My experience is that "simpler is better".

Thanks for your input.
