While you probably had a different intent, when I think windmill I think wind, and therefore chaos, disarray, disorderly... etc
something which Joomla isn't / doesn't want to be ...

Could be reading too much into it of course..

Color too bland for my taste... looking for something sharper.

Good idea. It could look like an eolic generator, maybe by making its arms more symmetrical, maybe by adding a pole it would be fixed to.

yes, I agree. Referring to Joomla!: It brings order into the Homepage-Project.

I think it would be "perfect" if the arms didn't remind of knives at all. 
And for that, I would smooth the edges so that they look more aerodynamic.

Probably I like your logo just because of that!
I also like what it stands for: clean energy, power, converting a great flow into something useful (community), but it also points in all the directions, as kind of an inviting gesture saying 'everyone is welcome'.
I just like it!
