Re: How to bridge SMF and Joomla 1.5
It is disappointing but it certainly is SMF's choice.
If you want to stick with Joomla!, you can use the JoomlaHack bridge.
Eventually, it will make sense to move towards a GPL forum. Reports are good on phpBB3. In fact, they won the 2007 SourceForge Community Choice Award for best project for Communication. There will not be a license issue as both Joomla! and phpBB utilize the GPLv2 and rhuk is already building a phpBB3 bridge.
We'll get there!

Amy, you still haven't answered my request. Your accusation was rather serious, and yet when asked on it, you remain silent. Can you please answer the request?

If there are attachments or other files on our server, please indicate the exact post and I'll investigate. If merely linking to another site that contains a file counts as distribution, please come out and say that directly.

Re: How to bridge SMF and Joomla 1.5
AmyStephen when I’m reading your post I get very disappointed not in J! or the SMF team but how you are acting if you are part of the teams. Please speak for your self and not for J! or SMF teams.
Please respect the decision of the J! and SMF team. And do not let this be an endless thread of miscommunication.
Both teams have all ready said why the bridge is discontinued so let us respect that. Also the JH bridge is violating the GPL licence. This is all ready mentioned in several threads. So please let us stop the discussion and let us concentrate on the future

Re: How to bridge SMF and Joomla 1.5
My apologies, Livebox, if you believe I have pretended like I am on the team. I am not. I have never quoted anyone on the team and I have not spoken for the team or with the team. I do not represent any viewpoint other than my own, but, I reserve the right to speak my mind.
I agree with you about moving on. My last post focused on the future and what the choices are. I think you are directing your comments to the wrong person.
Motoko-chan - I remained silent only because Jean-Marie asked we stay on topic and I showed him proper respect by doing so. This thread is not about WordPress's license. Re-read my post, check the links I provided and consider what I have already said on the matter.

I don't believe they said you were quoting the team, but rather speaking as if you were an official, and thereby causing your words to be taken as something official. Given the times the J! team told you in other topics to not act like you are speaking for them, one would hope you'd learn to make sure it was clear the words were your own.AmyStephen wrote: I have never quoted anyone on the team and I have not spoken for the team or with the team.
Perfect thing to say. Please consider including it in future places where your words might be considered official statements by individuals that aren't knowledgeable on who is part of the team. Not everyone knows who is who, and confusing the users would be a bad thing.AmyStephen wrote: I do not represent any viewpoint other than my own, but, I reserve the right to speak my mind.
My last word on this: I think WordPress could be considered a more direct distributor than anylink offsite on the SMF site.AmyStephen wrote: Motoko-chan - I remained silent only because Jean-Marie asked we stay on topic and I showed him proper respect by doing so. Back on topic, here are the basic choices right now:
- Keep the current version of the "official" bridge and Joomla! you have, while manually patching for any security issues that come up. (Difficult, not a likely long-term solution)
- Use the JH bridge and hope it doesn't get pulled if the developers can't find a way to make it legal or it drops in functionality to satisfy the license issues. (Not all that difficult, works for now)
- Drop the bridging in total. (Depends on how your site works, some can get by better without it than others)
- Move to a different forum system that will pass the legality issue. (A pain, but doable)
- Move to a different CMS. (A pain if you have a lot of content and custom stuff)
Most certainly you picked both Joomla! and SMF after careful examination of choices. You should do the same at this point. The worst thing to do in a case like this is to panic and act on emotions. Any of the bottom three choices are likely to be painful, don't jump at them until you are certain that is the proper path for you.
Edit: Small edit to my wording for a list item. Also a few other minor wording changes.

Excellent response. Of course, this is just my perspectivemotokochan wrote: here are the basic choices right now:Right now, the least painful solutions are the first and second. Until some major security fixes come along (and I don't think changing the password hashing mechanism in the middle of a branch is a good idea - as it does break all bridges for no fix of an existing weakness), holding steady will work fine. If you want to, move to the JH bridge for now. At the least, you can get a bit of time to investigate what you want to do.

For those uncertain - JH bridge means JoomlaHacks Bridge.
Thanks!
