Forge slowness update

Post by Tonie » Thu Feb 08, 2007 10:18 am

Joomla! Forge has been slow, or even giving timeouts lately. Like everybody, we don't particularly think this a good idea. The Joomla! Forge is hosted by VA, and we opened a ticket with them to see if we can speed up the Forge again. Hopefully, we will have all services online again pretty soon so that the timeouts are going to be a thing of the past.

I hope so too. Its not a great advert for VA (This is if i recall correctly) the largest install of the Enterprise Edition.

I'm sure we all agree that the S&I Team do an amazing job and that this is just out of their control.

Sorry to post this twice, but I posted in the installation forum on accident and this seems like a more appropriate place.

I've been trying to register at source forge for a couple days now so I can post in project trackers and discussions. Upon registration I get an error:

A SourceForge system error has occurred. An unexpected system error has occurred
If you feel you have received this message in error, please contact the SourceForge administrator and reference this tracking number: exid4223FAE90110A36F224D8A6A

I then get a confirmation email, but when I click on it I get another error:

A SourceForge system error has occurred.
If you feel you have received this message in error, please contact the SourceForge administrator.

And of course when I try to log in it won't let me. Just thought someone should know.

Obviously, the problems with Forge haven't been solved. The VA engineers are looking into it now. It's basically a resource issue where certain processes are overloaded due to the traffic to Forge. The busiest times on Forge is also the time with most problems (11 AM CET to 11 PM CET). Hopefully I can grant/deny project requests soon, this has timeouts as well. Again, my apologies for the inconvenience. Hopefully everything will return to normal really soon.

When is this problem likely to be fixed. I am currently tring to develope a multi site syetem and want to try out JoomMsites. Does anyone have an alternitive link for downloading this extension.

Would be nice to have a mirror service so downloads are a bit quicker here in the uk.

I hate to harp on this issue - but the forge isn't working at all from where I am - I've been trying it once or twice every half an hour for about 6 hours now, and can't get anything.

Is it possible to download from somewhere else? I need Joomla! itself, and can't get hold of it.

Thanks so much for patience, guys.

Yours,

There are no official mirrors, but there are unofficial mirrors (like in my sig).  If you download from a third party, be sure to check your download against the official md5 checksums.

Thanks for the notice and the mirror.  And the link to the checksums.  I found freeware on cnet.com for the checksums for windows, in case anyone else needs to do that.

Just as suggestion, it might be useful to put a link to this thread in the Announcements forum as unless you have been here for a while and paying good attention you may not know (like I didn't) to think to scroll down and look for a forum about the forge itself.  I (and at least one other) ended up posting in the 1.0.12 availability thread.

I'll go update my post.

There are no official mirrors
A bit silly don't you think? What other big projects have no mirrors?

Hope this get fixed ASAP.
Been going on for weeks now, no connection to the forge to get files.
Need to upgrade components and bots only available on the forge, of course  :(

Seriously need for a mirror of the forge, in Europe or Asia!!

Anyone seriously thought about getting a mirror or more of the forge so it will be possible to download files and upgrades when it's made available?

At this moment, we're trying to resolve the current issues. We aren't actively looking at mirroring for now.

So it's been almost a month since this thread was started, and the download is still unavailable and there is still no official mirror? Or am I missing something?  I was impressed when I saw Joomla, but sitting down tonight to install it, well, I can't get hold of it can I?  Should I use some other CMS or trust one of the community download locations?
