Questions About Joomla and My Needs

Hello everyone. I have only been playing with Joomla for about 2 weeks, so if this seems easy I am sorry. I am the webmaster for a nonprofit BBQ Association, and am looking for a change to our site. Our current site is using a heavily modified install of vBulletin, and vBadvanced for the front page. We really do not use the forum that much at all...we are mainly just utilizing the database backend of the forum software.

Here is what I would like (need) to be able to accomplish with Joomla and extensions. Please let me know if this can be done (and what extensions will be needed).
  • Membership Management - Right now, I will need to be able to add members manually, but in the future would like to use PayPal for annual dues. The member management software will need to be able to send out automatic emails (configured by us) to members that are coming up for renewal. If they do not renew, the account will need to be deactivated.
  • On the same subject of members, I will need different "levels" of members. "Regular Members", "Judges", and "Marshals".
  • Here is a "biggie" - I need an event calendar that the public can see (easy enough). BUT...I will need for ONLY Judges and Marshals to be able to "register" to judge the events. About a week before the event, I would like an email to be sent out to all registered judges to remind them of the event.
  • I need an email form that ONLY the Marshals can access. This form will allow them to email all of the Judges, Regular Members, or Marshals (or any combonation).
That's all of the requirements that I can think of right now. If I think of more, I'll add them to this thread. Please let me know if all of this is possible with existing extensions.

I think all of that can be accomplished. Look for the community building extensions as well as the paid membership extensions.

For judging, which I've done, I would suggest you install Fireboard, and then give the judges access to judging forum. Then, use a different thread for judging the various events.

Alternatively, you could just set up a different email addy for each event and ask the judges to send an email with the pertinent information to event1@bbq, event2@bbq, etc.
