Blogging and Wikis on Church Website

Not really sure if this is the appropriate spot for this, but I'll give it a go... I'm curious if any of you Joomla users who maintain church websites use blogs or wikis (maybe your church staff uses them...maybe the congregation in some way, shape, or form)? I would be interested in reading how others use these kinds of resources on their Joomla-based sites. Looking for ideas for ours. Thanks!

I use Joomla for both church websites and blogs, including on http://www.churchwebsiteconsulting.com. Feel free to get in touch with me. I'd be interested in what you're doing and what you've discovered.

Thanks.

I think you are the one who also sent me an e-mail today, correct? I believe I accidentally deleted the e-mail thinking that what you sent me was also posted on this topic as a response. Doh! Anyway, we already do quite a bit on our site, but I'm always looking for new ideas. I work at a technical college, and I've been hearing a lot about wikis and blogs this past week or two, and so I thought I'd ask as it relates to our church's Joomla-based website. Have a look: http://www.ascensionfdl.org.

Hi,

Yes, it was me who sent an email yesterday.

Your church site looks great. I think blogs are a great addition to church sites, especially if a number of people in the church blog. I have a Joomla based blog here http://johnsmulo.com

This is interesting. So, Joomla also hosts a blog site. My husband and I are missionaries and that would really interest me to start a blog site. I am looking around and I don't see a link that would lead to starting a blog site with Joomla. I am new here. Any help is appreciated. :)

Some use MyBlog for Joomla. I haven't used it. But I'd be interested what other's think who have. I've created a Joomla site and used it for a blog here http://www.johnsmulo.com

If you have any questions about starting a blog with Joomla let me know. Feel free to contact me via email as well.

John

My church web site (newly relaunched using J!) is using J! 1.5 built-in blogging features, and it seems to be working decently well; various people have contributed posts.

I'd really like a way to comment on blog entries. Can anybody recommend a good extension for that?

I've used Jom Comment for a long time and like it a lot. I'd like to see your church site if you don't mind sharing the link.

The site looks good! I put together a site for another Lutheran church with Joomla here http://livingwater-eg.org/ if you're interested in checking it out. It was built on Joomla 1.0. I wish it was 1.5.

Great website JoeBackward. I plan on using Joomla 1.5. How did you do the calendar and events? Thank you.

Hello Mr. C. I use JCal Pro (a subscription is required to get the software, but it's worth it).

Here's a summary of my web site tech.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

This is an excellent site. Makes me think of a talent show act in a church I used to serve, the Flying Baldheado Brothers! :-)

Can you give us a rundown of how you're handling the banner-like photo area at the top?

Thanks!

John,
Would you mind briefly explaining how the Agape [youtube] was included, please?
Looks like it might be similar to the way that GoogleMap works, but I like the way it keeps the video inside the Joomla frame and doesn't spawn a new browser.

I'm doing a pro-bono design for a small Baptist church that doesn't have [youtube] stuff YET, but I'm sure the youth pastor will want to work with it as well as FaceBook and/or MySpace.

TIA.

I currently use just the Joomla 1.5 internal blogging component for our Church Youth Website. I am trying to find a good comment component to go along with it that I like, but am not happy with any of the current ones available. I used Jreactions on our old site, which I really liked, but it is not available for J1.5. Here is our website, let me know what you think.
