Government site moving to Joomla!

Post by BugGuy » Mon Jul 07, 2008 6:26 pm

Hello,

Just wanted to drop by and say hello. I'll be moving a City Government website to Joomla and will be looking for tips.

I had considered Wordpress but it seems Joomla is a better match. I'm both excited and a bit apprehensive as this is a big project.

Have a great day everyone!

Jim

Any questions in particular that you were thinking about? I'd be glad to provide any suggestions I might be able to offer ;D

None as of yet - I'll be setting things up tomorrow and then tweaking. I appreciate the offer and will bump you should I run into problems.

Have a great day!

Jim.

Thanks for the link - Setting the server up took longer than expected and I should be able to start installing the software next week! Exciting :)

Regards,

Jim.

Hey BugGuy,

I manage a Joomla site for an Australian Government Department and am in the process of developing another.

Make sure that Accessibility is a priority. Your site should meet priority 1 and 2 (ideally prioty 3) checkpoints of the W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG10/full-checklist.html

Depending on legislation where you live, you could be in breach of Disability Discrimination laws as a Government organisation if your site is not accessible.
