free design offered for non-profit organisation

Post by fcoulter » Thu Jul 10, 2008 3:51 pm

Hello, I am offering a free Joomla website to a charitable or other non-profit organisation.

I am an experienced Joomla template designer, and I want to do this in order to showcase some of my new design ideas. You can see some of my work on my site which is at http://www.iswebdesign.co.uk

You will need to sort out your own domain name and hosting, which obviously must be capable of running Joomla ( which basically means it has php scripting and a mysql database) - your web hosting provider should be able to advise you on this.

I am willing to install and set up the site, and create a custom design template for it. Once it is up and running you should be able to manage it yourself with little difficulty, although I can provide some support with this.

If you are interested please contact me through my site

Well, this is an interesting offer. I have been building my own Joomla 1.5 (+Legacy 1.0) site for our nonprofit organization--Mevakshei Shalom, The Healing Congregation. You can view what we have at www.mevaksheishalom.org.

I actually like the look and feel of your home page and would be interested in discussing what you could do with us. IT is important that I be able to maintain, modify and otherwise work with the site myself--after you are done (i.e., not change the look and feel design, but the usual CMS stuff).

One caveat. I am in the midst of revising the site to accomodate a number of new free and nomially charged services--all of which will be announced in the next couple of weeks. I have reseller hosting priveleges, so creating a parallel site shouldn't be difficult--and they are definitely Joomla 1.5 friendly. So the sooner it is done, the better.

If you would rather talk by phone, I can be reached at 310-728-8132. Ask for Rabbi DuBrow.

Be well.

Hi,

I am happy to discuss this.

Can you send me a brief message using the contact form on my site, then we can discuss this by email? I am in the UK so phone calls may be a bit expensive.

I am currently working on a very rough demo project for the Non-profit blood provider I work for. I am hoping you can help me with a small technical issue I am working with. I would like to set up the Joomla system so that when a visitor goes to our main page, the system will detect the visitor's IP and send them to the appropriate page for their region. We are represented in several U.S. states. Our current site requires visitors to click on a map to determine their location. I want to remove this extra click.

Or maybe even just detect the IP and filter the content based on the location?

Not sure which is easier or more feasible...

Chris.

Sorry I can't undertake to do this myself, I have had a lot of requests in response to my original post, and I am specifically looking for design projects, which this isn't really.

I should think this would be easy enough to implement though. It may well be that there is a Joomla extension that already does this, I suggest that you repost this as a new topic in the Joomla support forum.

Greetings,

I have a site for our local Search & Rescue group called searchdognorthidaho.net which is up and running, but has the typical IE vs other browser problems which I do not know how to solve. I am a search dog trainer/handler, not a web designer but no one else in our SAR group is either, so I inherited the task. Is getting our site working properly with IE something you would be interested in helping with?

I do not mind switching templates and would certainly credit you with lavish praise and a link to your site, but our group has no budget. We are an all volunteer group who pays all our own expenses both for training and when we are called out for an actual search. Our mission is locating people lost in the wilderness, hopefully while they are still alive.

thanks,
Steve V
