http://acteva.com is also great for online registration and online ticketing - we used them for ticketing for an event not long ago, and the online registration process was flawless.

We're with Reg Pro. While I'd love to see it integrate a calendar, it's easier said than done, I guess. At the end of the day, Registration Pro keeps on tickin' and now it's 1.5 too (mine's 1.0).

So is the consensus favorable on the two following extensions?

- DT Register
- RegistrationPro

Is one better than the other? Are there any other options availabe? Limitations to keep in mind?

I believe the reviews of DT Register speak for themselves. Info on functions and such is found at [Moderator edit; url removed due to being self promotion]. You can also ask any pre-sales type questions in the forum there and will get a timely response. Another option or two does exist, but DT Register is the definite front-runner in event registration for Joomla.

Hi,

I finally figured out how to install CiviCRM. I used CiviCRM version 2.0.4 on Joomla! 1.5 Legacy mode....so far so good. Below are the steps I followed. I hope it helps you. There are no php updates to make etc....

Install steps:
1. Download the CiviCRM zip file to computer and then Upload it to:
yourjoomladirectory/administrators/components/com_installer

2. Use Joomla! Xplorer (a free component found on the Joomla.org site under "Extensions") to unpack it.(Switch from ftp mode to file mode so that the Unpack icon is available) After unpacking, the CiviCRM com folder should be here:
yourjoomladirectory/administrators/components/com_installer/com_civicrm

3. Go to Install from Directory and enter your ENTIRE path. If you don't know what that should be (which is what my problem was) go to the Joomla Admin menu Click on Help > System Info > Configuration Path and scroll down to $log_path. This is the ENTIRE path you should be adding when using Install from Directory.

Your path will probably look something like this:
home/yourserver/yoursite.com/yourjoomladirectory/administrator/components/com_installer/com_civicrm

4. The actual install process may take five or so minutes.....so be patient.

I hope this works for you - Good Luck!!!

The software as we all know is great! This is just what my non-profit needs to complete the site and manage its operations comprehensively. CivicEvent is the answer to lots of our prayers/requests, and I prefer the Joomla! administration panel to that of Drupal.

I'm no IT person so don't hate me if it doesn't work for you, but try it. Post here if it works for you.....and, I guess, even if it doesn't.

Hope this helps.....CiviCRM Rocks!!

There are also some instructions on how to use it in Joomla 1.5 native mode at http://civicrm.org/node/297. You have to modify the installation xml file and make a couple of minor changes to the admin.civicrm.php file and configure.php file. I haven't tried it yet, but will be trying it next week.

I saw those instructions too, but did not load them. It also involves making a change to the Joomla! configuration.php file, and I was reluctant to do that.

I'll wait for the CiviCRM ver 2.1 release that is supposed to support Joomla! 1.5 Native.

Ok. I'll have to relook at that. I was understanding that it was changes to the civicrm configure.php file as opposed to the Joomla configuration.php file.

Actually, the instructions require changes to both files.

Hi, I'm relatively new to Joomla but I am an experienced web designer/developer. I've been looking into all kinds of online event registration options for a client. After seeing all of the demo sites and reviewing lots of forum posts I am also narrowed down to the above mentioned extensions:
-Event Registration Pro $119.99
-DT Register $50.00

Here is my thought on the both of them. The cost of each software vary as much as the software itself. So it is very hard to say which one is worth their price. Price isn't everything though. If you take out the price and just judge each component side by side, Registration Pro is clearly more robust and has a ton more features. I am strongly leaning towards purchasing Registration Pro based on my current research to date. The developers of Event Registration Pro have put together some very nice comparison charts of Registration Pro vs DT Register and also a comparison of Registration Pro vs other major online event service type of providers. This has helped me verify that the features raised in these comparison charts do or do not exist in each extension.
Here are the 2 links for the comparisons that I have found on the Joomla Showroom site. Hope my research on this topic can help others also narrow down their needs faster. Researching software is a tedious process.
http://joomlashowroom.com/index.php/Eve ... vices.html
http://joomlashowroom.com/index.php/Eve ... ister.html

One other thing that I have to question in this post. The CiviCRM software appears to do a lot. But why on earth would anyone want to go through the trouble of reading through an 800+ page user manual and then STILL have to go on a forum and ask how to simply install it? That just makes no sense to me. Why jerk around with something that complicated? And why would you use anything that required you to modify any core Joomla files to make it work, esecially the main configuration files? Some people must enjoy making things dificult. There are definately easier and better solutions out there than using a software like CiviCRM. :pop

hotrodder and everyone else -

The comparison chart from joomlashowroom is WRONG. Half of the items they say that DT Register does not include are things that actually ARE included. They have been asked to fix their wrong info. We'll see if they do.

Items that they incorrectly say DT Register does NOT have when it actually DOES are:

- Ability to manually add registration records that came in offline
- Show the number of people registered to an event and how many seats are available
- Ability to edit registration records from the backend
- Support should also include Support Ticket System

Based upon the Registration Pro reviews compared to the DT Register reviews... looks like "get what you pay for" doesn't always apply...

Hi Everyone,

Having installed CiviCRM on my own after reading the install instructions, I must say that it is difficult. I posted the steps I took that helped me finally get it installed earlier in this thread. I can't believe CiviCRM is free. However, I certainly feel it was very much worth the effort. If you check out the demo http://www.civicrm.org you will understand why it's so bulky to install.

At any rate, I have also purchased and installed Event Registration Pro and DT Register for my Joomla! 1.0.x install. They work, but marginally so (in my opinion). As well, I had various problems with it looking good in my template...the two just didn't work well.

So here are two great websites (third party) if you don't need users logging into your site to register:
http://www.[spam].com and http://www.eventsbot.com. One is free with ads and both have an account that can be customized to match your website for a per ticket fee that can be passed on to the ticket purchaser or can be absorbed by the ticket seller.

As the search for adequate online event registration options continues, make sure you check things out for yourself....don't just rely on what you find in these forums.

One thing, Registration Pro doesn't allow you to use multiple payment options..
if you choose Off-line Payment you are stuck with that. no one can pay online.

With dt register you have the option to offer Offline Payment, Paypal Payment and other payment.

im I wrong?

I Think that the way to go for a joomla 1.5 version is DT register.

the best of all ways its on joomla 1.0,x. Jcal + attend events 0.9

thats my point of view.

This thread has been running for something like a year, and in so much time things change...

Ease of use would be nice but more importantly I am looking for the most powerful solution I can get, and I am happy to pay any amount which is value for money. Some of my particular requirements are amongst other things (i) full integration with Community Builder or JCommunity with a list of events to which a user has signed up in his/her profile, (ii) a calendar of events, (iii) an events organisers class of users who can submit events, and (iv) I do not want to use any third party online service like Eventsbrite or Eventsbot.

What at the moment is the best (set of) extensions out there? The ones on my radar are DTRegister+Jevents, EventRegistration Pro, and CivicCRM/Events/Members. Did I miss anything?

Are any of the developers of these extensions prepared to customise their extension against payment (which may save time waiting for donations to fund further extension development)? Or are standard packages the only option? (For mods: I am not soliciting here! Just trying to understand if extensions or my plans have to change.)

Ewel,
You raise a great point about the development of new features, or customizations as you call it. I can't speak for any other software but in our company if we have a customer that would like to sponsor the development of a feature we are happy to do it. It only helps to make the software better. Any questions at all that you may have about EVENT REGISTRATION PRO then please send us a private message or just visit our site and contact us from there. We would welcome your input whatever your decision might be in the long run. We are working very hard to be the best, most feature rich solution out there and so far we have proven to do so.
Thanks,
Mike

Another thing, you cant (at least not me)
add pictures or any additional code into any event description.
also, tickets will be available to purchase till you run the event, you can not stop ticket sales lets say 2-5 hours before event start
(there is no time settings for tickets sale)

The next version of Registration Pro will do this. (Version 2.8 ) Coming very soon.
Another thing, you cant (at least not me) add pictures or any additional code into any event description.
This is not true with Registration Pro. The event details can hold any information you wish just like any Joomla content item does.
also, tickets will be available to purchase till you run the event, you can not stop ticket sales lets say 2-5 hours before event start (there is no time settings for tickets sale)
This is also not true for Registration Pro. You can set the event registration start and ending dates to only allow people to register for an event during a certain period of time.

true, you have time settings, but just for the events schedule
there is no time(minutes, hours) settings, only dates on registration/payment acceptance

Code: Select all

Select registration form:
Event Registration starts: Format yyyy-mm-dd
Event Registration ends: Format yyyy-mm-dd
This is not true with Registration Pro. The event details can hold any information you wish just like any Joomla content item does.
you can if you use joomla 1.0, not on 1.5 legacy

this is what you get when you try to add an image on 1.5.x legacy

Code: Select all

<img src="%5C%22images/registrationpro/events/art_front.jpg%5C%22" border="0" alt="\"dsds\"" title="\"dsds\"" width="250" height="375" />
as you can see it change the code once you save the event.

tested on joomla 1.5.2- 1.5.3
works fine on J 1.0.x

Another thing,
there is NO WAY for people who already place an order/registered for an event to buy another products because that user email has already one.
then, what happen if later on somebody wants to purchase a ticket for a friend who doesnt have email?

Regarding the email check amaurib mentioned, DT Register has a setting for this so you can implement a duplicate registration check (based on email) or you can disable it. Whichever works best for your needs!

Other items discussed here recently like multiple payment options and such are also currently available with DT Register.

About Registration PRO, my company bought and it seems to be working fine so far, we only did a few tests, but i got 1 question, Why isnt it possible to add a Field type UPLOAD file in the form???? this is a kind of field that we most need and a cheaper form extension like RSformPro does that why it isnt implemented in this expensive extension? Is there any way to work around and make this field available????

When I am done with my specs I am planning to contact the developers of several extensions to ask detailed questions, but I thought it was interesting to note in this thread that there is an open source e-commerce solution bridged into Joomla which also handles events, Freeway. Has anyone tried this, and would anyone be able to say how this compares to DT Register, Event Registration and other solutions? The link is http://www.openfreeway.org
