தமிழ் குழுமம் (Tamil Translation)

Post by tharsan » Mon Oct 23, 2006 6:16 am

Many languages becoming part of the Joombla development, but Tamil take long time to get in to the journey. is that means we (Tamils) have no unity on this issue? We have to be stand together for that. First of all we have to get together and discuss about the development.

i have some suggestions at the time of translations:
1) Try to avoid the English word at the time of translation and try to introduce the pure Tamil words.

2) if we not sure about the Tamil words we can discuss on this topic and get the correct word with meaning.

looking forward to make Tamil as an active and progressed language in the Joombla.

tharsan thanks for posting in english..

You might be happy to know that a very good member of this forum tamilselvan has contributed to the tamil translation and after viewing through it I can say its almost complete but sadly he has not been active on the forums for a long while //

As of this time we are actively looking for tamil translators who can review the translation made by him and add a few new missing strings to it and make it joomla 1.0.11 compatible.. right now it is not, since it was made way back in February and since then quite a few joomla versions have come out with a quite few number of new strings..

About you first suggestion..
1) Try to avoid the English word at the time of translation and try to introduce the pure Tamil words.
Avoid is the perfect word for it.. since if you use fully tamil words which are not in everyday use you run the risk of alienating normal everyday users who dont have an indepth understanding of the language..
we have faced it quite a few times when translating bengali / hindi and tamil languages and decided to avoid as much as we can without harming normal everyday users..
2) if we not sure about the Tamil words we can discuss on this topic and get the correct word with meaning.
Great, we would love that..

So once again if you want to donate a few hours for the benefit of the tamil people please contact me through PM (Private Message) on this forum so that we can co ordinate and work out the few small issues needed to release the translation..

Thanks

I can understand, thanks for helping out..

I am making the process a bit simpler for you, what you can do is borrow from the translation tamilselvan did.
it can be found here.

Hello Thusyyanthan,

We have Tamil Language packs which will give you the interfaces in Tamil.
Tamil to English translation and vice versa is still under research and we need to go a long way (As far I know) There are researches being carried out in India as well as in Sri Lanka.
I think we need to wait sometime. Once we have a procedure for this, then we can think of developing a module for Joomla!
