Font problem after migrating to new web hosting server

Post by sanjayrks » Mon Mar 26, 2007 12:50 am

Hi,

I have just migrated the Indic joomla website to a new web hosting server using the help from forum topic

http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,149110.0.html

For migrating the database, i had done an export first and the executed import on the new sql server.

After doing this, all the data appear as ??????? on the website that was entered in Hindi font.

How do i make the sql server load the data in hindi?

Has anyone faced a similar problem or could guide me in migrating the Indic joomla website.

The site url is http://www.dinman.in

Thanks in advance.

Sanjay

Hi Sanjay,

It appears that the UTF-8 encoding of the database was not preserved..
This could have happened due to many causes..

First check if the collation of the previous DB was utf8_general_ci or not..

Second, make sure you don't edit the .sql file after its on your computer after export..

Third, select the Character set of the .sql file to be UTF-8, while importing the database..

Cheers

Hi Romit,

Thanks for the reply, but i donot have the rights on sql server the collation or charset.

And while exporting data, i again donot have the option for UTF-8.

I guess i have to redo the whole work now :(

Cheers!!!!!!

1. Your new template CSS has somewhere letter-spacing attribute. Take them off.

2. Your configuration.php file has BOM. To remove that open the file with Babelpad ( or similar editor that allows non-BOM saving) and save without BOM.

3. Your database is fine.

You are quite right, the text on the module titles and the main title do have a letter spacing in them,

But I still think its a db problem with the actual content..
