one site - two languages

Post by sushant4joomla » Sat Apr 03, 2010 12:18 pm

Hello friends,
I am a newbie and have installed joomla1.5.15.
I intend to have a website which has content in hindi and english simultaneously.
The article which would be under newsflash/latest news would have articles in hindi, while the remaining content would be in english.
I installed the hindi language pack and followed these steps:
1. Wrote article in other editor (MS Word)
2. Changed the language of the article from the advanced parameters to hindi in the admin interface
3. Copied article in tinymce
4. Saved article
But the issue with this approach is, I cannot have the article title in hindi.
Can anybody pls help me to have article title in hindi?
Thanks in advance.
Just a note: I do NOT intend to have the articles featured under newsflash/latest news to be in english. I want them to be in hindi only.

Hi Sushant,

Welcome to the Forum!

You also have to enter Article title in Hindi. Language pack only translates Joomla predefined strings to Hindi.

And also if you just need one section (newsflash) in Hindi then you really don't need to install Hindi language pack.

Let me know if you have any other issues.

Thanks

Hi Ronak,
Thanks for the info.
But the last time when i tried to do so, the article title remained in english (though it was not actually the english translation of the hindi title, but just few english alphabets, which made no sense), even though i copied the title from ms word, after writing it in hindi.
I did the same thing for article content and it worked.
It seems I missed out on something.
Request your guidance on this.
Thanks a lot.

Nope, the title remains in english, i mean when i copy from ms word, the copied title, changes to english alphabets, which looks like junk sentence.
And i cannot enter content or title directly in hindi.

Okay got your problem! You need to type the Title in Unicode. Look here, these both threads can help you regarding Unicode typing.
http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=162&t=339766
http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=162&t=472206

Also you can use external unicode tools like these -
http://service.vishalon.net/[spam].htm
http://www.google.com/transliterate

Just type in any of the above editors and paste into Title field. That's it.

Let me know...

Thanks Ronak, thanks a lot, it worked in the best possible manner i could think of.
In fact, i tried to install google offline typing editor and it didnt worked out, then i tried with the editor vishal has made and it worked absolutely fine.
Thanks a lot for the info.
I would like to thank joomla webmaster, Mr. "Infograf" too for explaining the process in such a simple language.
Thanks once again to the team.
