Enable Blog in Joomla Core!!!

Post by thenicespider » Mon Oct 09, 2006 12:28 am

Hi,
I am core dev of Joomblog, through this extension I saw that VERY2 easy to enable blog in Joomla, only need to add a new field called "content_type". The value for content_type are: article or blog.

This modification only requires several line code because Joomla has this capability! But since this changing alter Joomla core file than I propose that this modification accepted as part of Joomla core in the next development.

Regards.

I agree. Joomlblog is a wonderful component in itself and I think it is important for users to distinguish between an article and a blog.

How do you do this?  Will this make Joomblog work?  As of now, Joomblog will not add any new users that join your site.  In other words, Joomblog will not allow new users who sign up on your site to add blogs.  Will doing this "content-type" thing fix that?

I am not sure you should post that here. I use Joomblog religiously and I add users all the time.

Joomblog don't need add user separately because Joomblog use native Joomla user component. What you must understand that Joomla already has capability to support blog BUT only require VERY VERY small revision.
We only need to add new field "called as content_type".
Please try Joomblog then you know what do I mean. Joomblog only change NOT MORE THAN 1% of Joomla native files!

Well, this is a feature request and 1.0.x is a stable branch meaning no new features should be integrated there.  However, I think what you are after will fit in 1.5 nicely as you can make a custom output time to extend the Joomla! 1.5 output types (html, rss, raw, etc) so you could create an output type blog and then make some views that will control how the component output is rendered which will let you do just about anything you need to do.  I don't think any core hacking is necessary as the system is designed to handle this type of extensibility.  Maybe one of the Devs can shed some more light on how one would actually go about doing this.
