Session timeouts and losing data

Post by AstralSin » Fri Oct 20, 2006 4:57 pm

How about NOT losing my data when I write a long article and my session times out.  I'd rather not increase my session length due to the security risk.  Perhaps pausing the session timeout when an item is being edited? I just lost an hour's worth of work because of this

Hi Eyezberg,

Your suggestion makes sense, but I would advise you not to use your editor to really write articles. I never do that, except maybe for 2- or 3-liners or a correction here and there. But for substantial articles, I use a decent word processor. Copy-paste does the rest. I've never felt really comfortable in any of the available editors, opensource or commercial. They are either too limited, or the session gets timed out or whatever, but they are not meant for a good evening of text writing.

My suggestion..?

I wonder how long your web texts are, do you know people don't really read much online?

Personally, I just "Apply" all the time while keeping the article unpublished, then check with special access in frontend, then clean up the editor code and go live :)
