Global 'Hide into text' option

That's what I'd like. Then I can un-set that variable as and when, although I would mostly want it set.

It can be done for things like author, date, etc.  8)

Actually... add 'Easy way to change date format' to the list too.

Sorry - that was a late-night post!

Almost all the article on the site I'm building will make use of the ability to turn off the intro text when you view the full article. But the intro text will still be displayed, together with any thumbnails, in the frontpage and other blog-style index pages. You can see what I mean at www.acquis.lu, my test site.

At present, though, the only way to do this is to log in to the Admin back-end and change every page as it comes in from the various authors. I'd like the authors to be able to do this themselves; or, preferably, to have a global setting in the Gobal Configuration, so that intro text is always hidden, and new pages can inherit that global setting. As happens with the author & date variables, for example.

If you meant the date-thing; well, it would be handy if that was a setting I could pick in the config, rather than editing any code. I can pick my locale, but I find the extra comma in the date display to be most irritating!

Thanks for the clarification. Your comments make alot of sense. It should be possible to define global settings for all of the specific content parameters. Could u add this as a feature request to the feature request tracker ?

Can do (won't be until I get home tonight, though).

One potentially dumb question... I can see the tracker, and the existing requests. What I can't see is an Add or Create New button/link anywhere!

I'd twigged... I was having a Homer moment.

I have redeemed myself by working out how to create an account without asking anyone though! Aren't Help files useful?

Unassigned, unprioritised tracker artifact now created.

Thanks,
Gary

Just joined the forum - been developing with Joomla / Mambo a long time now, and figured it's time to join in a bit!

So - if it's any help...

we usually set the defaults in the relevant XML files for the user to make it easier when they are adding and editing new content. Like you, we often find we're wanting Hide intro text on by default. So, instead of setting it globally we edit
administrator/components/com_content/content.xml

change line 28 where it says

to

This approach works for many of these options. One caveat is that where parameters don't exist in files, the mosParam calls generally have a default hardwired into them which this approach doesn't get around. But generally not a problem.

The beauty of this approach is that although it feels like you're changing the code - these settings are broken out into XML to make these kinds of edits easy and painless.
