Separate conntent by date on frontpage

I, and I think many other Joomla! users that offten update their sites need possibility to separate conntent on front page by date

eg:

10.11.2005.
some conntent
some conntent
some conntent

9.11.2005
some conntent
some conntent
some conntent
....

I had that idea, too. I'm thinking about writing an API for this. If I do, don't expect anything before new year.
