[NOTED] Open Design

Post by ¥ » Mon Aug 06, 2007 1:58 am

I realize this raises a potentially horrific backward-compatibility issue - and I know that there are core hacks available, though hacks are always frowned upon.

But is there any hope whatsoever that the team might consider introducing 2 versions of Joomla? One could maintain backwards-compatibility, and the other might allow for less restrictions?

At any rate, the abuse of tables throughout Joomla proves to be a nightmare - and I'd hope the gurus responsible for this wonderful CMS might view it as an embarrassment.

So here's my wish for a table-free Joomla.

I've flagged a point of discussion to be upgrade the default layouts in 1.6 to "best practices" and to placed all the current 1.5 layouts into a like a legacy template.  In this way, people could just drop the overrides into their active template to maintain b/c.

Hope this helps.
