Is it a 1 hour job? Are you a programmer then? Maybe you could build it? I would be the first one to congratulate you on a job well done! :)

No, I'm not. OK, maybe my prediction was bad, it's really not complicated, and every Joomla site need this component.

The question is not about Google Maps, but Google Sitemaps.

Have you tried the one available for download here?
http://www.joomlaresource.com/Joomla_Ad ... Generator/

And if yes, what is wrong with it? Can you give your evaluation?

I find so many different ones by just googling "google sitemap joomla", so I think you will have to be more specific on how you mean these ruin your SEO...

Before I started this topic, I tried many Joomla components that should build Google Sitemaps, I didn't start this coz I don't have anything else to do...

http://www.joomlaresource.com/Joomla_Ad ... Generator/ <- it doesn't generate valid itemID and make a double content problem

http://mambo.medspan.info/mambo-downloa ... ,category/ <- it doesn't add itemid at all and make a double content problem to...

Why this is so big problem??? And why this will RUIN SEO??? Coz of makimg two (or more) different link for totaly same content. By regular crawling spider find one link for one content and in sitemap it find totaly different link (different itemid).

As for now, I'm making my sitemap by extracting links from mambomab, coz mambomap make corect link (like those one that can be found on site).

Might not be a sitemap component problem, but related to the deeper, long knwon itemID problem...
As torkil said, there are many components on offer, and if you say these are no good, you should've pointed out what is wrong with them and what needs to be done to not ruin SEO.. as you did now.
Have you tried just contacting the dev's of the linked ones and asking them if those shortcomings could be fixed?

As I told "finding" a corect itemid in mambomap is working corect. Maybe part of code from that component could be used to create google sitepam component.

About contacting. I already posted a couple of times on forums where those component developers are, but din't get response, just got confirmation from other users.

@pcigre.com

I have the same problem, GSG would probably be the best sitemap tool ever if it would support SEF Advance URL's.
I assume that the developpers stopped working on it.  :(

Did you find a solution so far ?

in GSG I found an interesting line in gsg.class.php

line 424 :

Code: Select all

function geturl($option, $frontend) {
		global $database, $mosConfig_absolute_path, $mosConfig_live_site;
		require ($mosConfig_absolute_path."/administrator/components/com_gsg/gsg.config.php");
		//require_once($mosConfig_absolute_path.'/includes/sef.php');

and line 656 :

Code: Select all

/**
	* used from sef.php
	* TODO.  When the include is fixed in sef, just include the
	* file and call the function
	*/
So that means they tried to include a Sef file, if that would work we could easily replace

Code: Select all

require_once($mosConfig_absolute_path.'/includes/sef.php'
with

Code: Select all

require_once($mosConfig_absolute_path.'/components/com_sef/sef.php'

I hope someone who knows php can help us. I consider a working google sitemap generator component to be very important to joomla !

Honestly, why not just use the python script that google suggests:

http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitema ... rator.html

I run that every hour (via cron) and it works just fine.  Also, it isn't activated by a user so you do not have to deal with the PHP blocking that takes place when a sitemap is generated.

This script is not very different from all the other windows based sitemap generators, the problem is they generate all the URL's on your site and nobody needs that.

I.E. this generator includes http://www.yourname.com/article1/vote , http://www.yourname.com/article1/writereview , http://www.yourname.com/article3/recommand and many more URL's in the phpbb forum for example which should not be submitted to google, a working sitemap generator for mambo with easy plugins for other components is badly needed.

Thanks

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I did find it by using the search function. It would be fantastic if Joomla generated an xml file for Googlesitemaps without having to use 3rd party add-ons. As Google is the de facto search engine out there it would seem that integration of such a feature into the Joomla core would be a major step in the right direction. Don't construe this as being negative towards the 3rd party add-ons, in the long run a feature as important as high-ranking Joomla sites will not only be good for the individual domain, but exposure for the Joomla project as well! Thanks for listening! :)
