Google Map on Contact Page

Hi all-

I've used a hack on my last few sites to replace the image on the contact details page with a google map. I find it much more suitable for small websites, and it could be expanded with a "Get Directions" input box.

I wrote an article to show how to do this if anyone is interested.

I was hoping that this was going to be the answer to all my problems.  But when I follow the instructions all that happens is IE crashes

I am seriously in need of a Google Maps solution with Directions capability, and no matter which extension I try and use, or hack i implement, none seem to work

Anyone actually got one working?

Hey man -

I made some adjustments to that code and now you can just download an archive and unzip at the joomla installation root instead of doing all the hacking...

I also found that nasty little spot of IE badness and made a fix for that -- the hack also has a little for for directions now too.

I've tested on several machines and haven't had a problem -- try downloading again... If it doesn't work, I'll rezip and update my download.

Tried again, still the same

The files show in the zip but when I try and extract with WinRAR or XP the only file which actually extracts the contact.html.php

I rezipped the files with 7-zip instead of winrar. Try now - I was able to extract all files from the new archive on another machine.

Any ideas how this can be adapted to show directions etc as well?  Not asking for much tonight am I! Sorry

The best I've been able to figure out for directions is the ability to click the little google tack thingy and open a bubble with a get directions form. That said, it will open the directions in a _blank window... AFAIK there is no way to pull the directions code to your site with the current api.

It is possible to have the bubble open when the map loads though... I changed the code for download and added it as another parameter for a specific contact. Unzip again and see if thats what you need...

I got the hack to show a map on the contact page. I check multiple sites and I know my lat and long is right but it's pointing to Antartica and I'm in Canada! Anyone know what the problem could be?

If anyone wants to know how to add the longtitude / latitude from the google map, there's a simple way described here.

please i need this in joomla 1.5 stable... i don't care about mambots, i would really like to just paste my google html in miscellaneous info like i did in 1.0.13, is there any way to achieve this.. ? thanks in advance for your help.
