Hi,

After trying the hack on v.1.0.11 and failing, I tried another method: since you need to have a direct menu link to the category in blog->category format to get it to list in the blog format rather than the table format by default, I decided to simply create a dummy menu that listed all the necessary categories in blog format but was assigned to an unused template position. Therefore, even though the menu is published and public, it never appears on the site. Now, when I click on those category titles, the resultant lists are in blog format and not default table format!  :D

Regards,

Jon

Thank you for this hack. Really great and powerfu. This should be default in Joomla.

But when I have Search Engine Friendly URLs – On it is not working. I tried change code but I’m not good coder.

Any chance set this hack working with SEO – On?

Thank you

from http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,258749.0.html

To add the option to show the Section Name (and make it Linkable) in the Blog view, add this in
/administrator/components/com_menus/content_section/content_section.xml

between lines:

Code: Select all

<param name="@spacer" type="spacer" default="" label="" description="" />
and

Code: Select all

<param name="category" type="radio" default="0" label="Category Name" description="Show/Hide the Category the item belongs to">
add:

Code: Select all

<!-- Show Section Names Hack -->
<param name="section" type="radio" default="0" label="Section Name" description="Show/Hide the Section the item belongs to">
	<option value="0">Hide</option>
	<option value="1">Show</option>
</param>
<param name="section_link" type="radio" default="0" label="Section Name Linkable" description="Make the Section text a link to the actual Section page">
	<option value="0">No</option>
	<option value="1">Yes</option>
</param>
<!-- Show Section Names Hack -->
save the file and edit the menu item(s) accordingly, selecting the new option(s). Amazingly enough (or maybe not?) that's all that is needed.

Yup, I use sh404SEF myself and everything seems to be working fine. It did work without a SEF component as well, though I haven't really thoroughly tested it yet (it was something like 3:30am yesterday when I finally got around it). Again, any insight on why the option wasn't there or whether it was removed and why? It seems too obvious to be an oversight...

This hack sounds just like what I have been looking for, but I need this for version 1.5.  Has anyone ported this hack to 1.5, or is there a way to do this already in 1.5 that I am missing?

Hope this helps.

Has anyone figured how fix the pagination problem? (the blog view doesn't show other pages beside the first -- unfortunately a major snag for what I need)

Using 1.0.13 with no SEF (had to remove sh404 and can't use the standard SEF because of jomcomment)

I know it's rather old stuff (what with 1.5 being out and the hack itself being a little over a year old) but maybe someone has had a chance to look into it...

Thanks.  That link did lead me to a very useful bit of code on joomlacode.  It is exactly what I wanted, although there is one minor bug.  When you follow a link from the section view to the category view, there is no way to control the order of the articles listed from the category.  In fact, I can not figure out what order it is using!

applied this hack to v1.0.13. I didn't test every feature, but it works really fine up to now !!
And it really helped me realize this f*** link from section list to category blog.

To help other interested people save time in applying this hack to Joomla 1.0.13, I've made a little zip with the hacked files, including the directory structure. This means you just have to unzip it locally, and then copy it to your joomla root directory to replace existing files.

Here is a link to the file : http://www.wizardkind.be/downloads/Joom ... 1.0.13.zip
I did the above but when i went to my menu parameters they were in French. I know it would be an easy fix but I am new to this stuff. Can anyone offer any advice I would like to change it back to all english.

Thanks
EC

I think that, independantly from the language (French) of my files, it is better to follow the entire procedure described above, as we are now at Joomla 1.0.15, and that hacking this new version with older files could result in an unexpected behaviour.

By the way, this hack seems to me such a great feature, I would fin d very nice to find it native in new version of Joomla. Does anyone know if it is planned to include it in a future version of Joomla 1.0.x ?

All this is very fine but what about joomla 1.5 seems all the content files have changed since anyone re-redid the work again. It seems that joomla needs a better less hacky solution to this overall..
