Adding to an existing menu access level

I'm a newbie to this forum. I've looked through but can't find an exact match to my question. I'm using the Special access level for a menu item and it works halfway. I need to clamp that down. What I'm looking for is making the menu item accessible only for those that are in our Joomla LMS groups. Special isn't quite tight enough-all members of the LMS groups are authors but not exclusively. The LMS groups members are what we want to see the menu item-they must be registered and logged in first, then their menu item is visible. How do I make this menu item visible only to this component's groups members only (LMS)?

What you are looking for an ACL Component (Access Control Level).

I use a commercial version of community builder for this feature but it's rather pricey. Check out some of these for reviews and pricing (some are free and may be all you need).
