Bug in Joomla 1.5.10: missing links in back end
Hi Joomlers,
It seems to bug:
>> in back end (administrator's interface) missing links on menu (menu items: Site, Menus, Content, Components, Extensions, Tools, Help).
detailed info:
Now I'm installing new Joomla ver.1.5.10 on Windows Server 2003 with XAMPP (for Windows).
Joomla front-end operates without problems but in back-end (administrator's part of Joomla) menu links (Site, Menus, Content, Components, Extensions, Tools, Help) are not as link, only as HTML paragraphs (eg. li class="node").
The same situation is if I go to section "Global configuration" (go into thru icon link). Links "Site", "System", "Server" are as only text (not links).
The icons in right top corner of this page (Save, Apply, Close, Help) doesn't operate too.
thanks
Fred

Was this a fresh installation or an upgrade? WHat other changes did you make?

Re: Bug in Joomla 1.5.10: missing links in back end
it was totally fresh installation. No changes in any Joomla code, no special extensions installed. Standard installation process (with installation Joomla sample data).
Installation on Windows XP, on XAMPP ver.1.7.1 (Apache 2.2, MySQL 5, PHP 5.x).

Re: Bug in Joomla 1.5.10: missing links in back end
Hi all,
I try uninstall Joomla 1.5.10 (delete installation directory and delete database for it
) and again install Joomla but for now - version 1.5.8.
I perform the same installation, on the same environment (Apache web server with the same virtual hosts, the same MySQL database server, ...).
Joomla 1.5.8 operates without problems!
All menu in administrator's backend are as links and functioning in order. Icons in sections works fine also.
It must be some bug in installation package ver.1.5.10. Maybe only some file is corrupted or missing some code in file(s).
Please check it.

Are you on xampp also?
Can both of you look at your source code for the part of the menu with no links and past copies here? Not the whole page, just that menu.

Re: Bug in Joomla 1.5.10: missing links in back end
Every menu I tried to create by linking them to the components have this issue. The backlinks were not showing up in the link box. Somehow, everything restored back to normal after I installed another components (Jumi). Now the backlinks are behaving like they should.

I don't understand, what menu are you trying to create in the backend?

Like create a menu for Contacts and link it to the contact component. Or menu for Forums linked to maybe Fireboard or Kunea forum component.mcsmom wrote:I don't understand, what menu are you trying to create in the backend?

No, in this thread we are talking about the backend menu at the top of the administrator. The one that says:
Site, Menus, Content, Components, Extensions, Tools, Help
If you are having a problem creating menu links, please start a separate thread.

Source code contains only text eg.Site, Menus, Content, Components, ...each with "li" HTML tag. Missing "a href" tag for each.mcsmom wrote:Are you on xampp also?

It's only version 1.5.10. I downloaded this version directly from Joomla.org site.
I wonder that nobody take a note of this.

They haven't taken not because it's not happening on their sites. What we need to do is figure out why it is happening on your site.

Re: Bug in Joomla 1.5.10: missing links in back end
Go to the module manager and look at the administrator modules. Look at the menu one and see what the settings are.
You're talking about when you first go into the administrator right?
Do you have any administrator extensions installed?

I try installed ver.1.5.10 again and the same result - in administrator's backend are not operate menu items, because are not links.

Re: Bug in Joomla 1.5.10: missing links in back end
The similar problem is, if I go to "Global configuration" part (through click on "Global configuration" icon". There is top menu ("Site", "Menu", "Content", "Components", "Extensions", "Tools" and "Help") the same as on main admin page.mcsmom wrote:They haven't taken not because it's not happening on their sites. What we need to do is figure out why it is happening on your site.
Can you please paste your source code?
And additionaly top "submenu" with menu items "Site", "System", "Server" do not operate correctly. These item are as links however, but link is wrong. Please see to following code:

Re: Bug in Joomla 1.5.10: missing links in back end
hi mcsmom, mcsmom wrote:Go to the module manager and look at the administrator modules. Look at the menu one and see what the settings are.
You're talking about when you first go into the administrator right?
Do you have any administrator extensions installed?
I cannot go to module manager. Menu item "Extensions" in admin back-end is not operate (it's not a link).

When you are in global config the menu should NOT work. That's proper behavior.
The items at the top are not actually links, they are supposed to show the submenus when they are moused over. So what about your extnesions, do they have their xml files that should be creatingthe links?

Are you logged in as a super administrator when it looks like that?

Re: Bug in Joomla 1.5.10: missing links in back end
Hi,
I am also having the same problem described. Having not logged into the back end (Joomla Administration Login) for a few months. There appears to be no link to the Site, Menu, Content, Components, Extensions, Tools and Help. Version 1.5.3. I am looking after three sites and this is the only one that has this problem. I am logged in as Super Administrator. I have tried other logins for Super Administrator and get the same problem with this site.Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You'll have to access your Joomla db with phpMyAdmin and check the jos_modules table. Look for the modules named "Admin Menu" and "Admin SubMenu", and check the "published" field for each of them. That field should have 1 as value, indicating that they are published. If any or both modules have a 0 in that field you must edit the record(s) and change the "published" value to 1.
Hope this helps,
Airton Torres

Re: Bug in Joomla 1.5.10: missing links in back end
Thanks for the assistance, I checked them, all ok. For the record I did turn them off and then back on again. They will remove and then came back, but still no hyperlink. I have also successfully (thankfully) upgraded to the latest version 1.5.10 and still no fix. Do you have any more ideas ?

Only two other things come to my mind right now:goddy68 wrote:Thanks for the assistance, I checked them, all ok. For the record I did turn them off and then back on again. 1- Go back to phpMyAdmin and the jos_modules table and make sure the "Admin Menu" module is assigned the "menu" position;
2- Replace all files in the /administrator/templates/khepri/ folder with the ones extracted from a full Joomla 1.5.10 install package.
Hope that helps,
Airton Torres

Re: Bug in Joomla 1.5.10: missing links in back end
Unfortunately still no luck. I have attached a copy of the file. No good with the jos module. I downloaded the full version and uploaded the files over the top into the khepri folder. Still no luck. I should mention I can get it to work if the global figuration is changed to debug system. Obviously its a bit of an effort as you have to change the config.php file so that you can write the global change. I have compared a number of files to the ones I have on other sites, but still no difference. Any more ideas I am happy to keep going, it would appear from reading the forums that no real answer has been found for similar problems ??

If you are at 1.5.3 you need to upgrade immediately since there have been major security releases since then. Any other problem you might have is small compared to that.
