comment_id in jos_content

Post by dkarlovi » Wed Sep 26, 2007 12:09 pm

I've been using SMF with a bridge and used the JoomlaHacks discussion bot. How it works is it joins articles with their comments by the title which is very slow and error-prone so I was thinking that jos_content could use a comment_id field, for example int unsigned default null (null, no comment, 0 = commenting on the item is disabled, 0< is the topic ID in the forum / component of your choice. jos_category and jos_sections could get a boolean (comments on / off) value to make it even more flexible (for example, I don't need comments on anything in Legal section, like terms of use, impressum etc.)

This brings me to my question: if I had a field like that, could I override the query in blog view non intrusively? For example, I override the query with my own which pulls the postcount from the topic with this ID and use a plugin (was: mambot) to create a "Comment this" link. Doing this in one go seems to me like a faster solution then the JH version above (it loops the content in view, gets it's title and queries for the info above).

Thoughts?
