Thanks for the summary.

What I'm trying to get is the full template width for my forum. If I do not display any of the items in the left position, will my forums page display across?

I've de-selected all left items for the forum but the left space holder is still appearing. How do I stop that and achieve the look I want? Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for any help

Thanks for that. I had tried searching but hadn't thought of looking for "collapse" as a key word.

I'll give this a shot.

Problem getting this to work with some content: 2 scenarios

Scenario 1:
Content article is linked to a submenu. A module is assigned to that menu item in the 'Edit Site module'.
However module does not show at all. (Module position does exist)

Scenario 2:
A multipage (3 page breaks) article is linked to submenu. The same module as above is linked to this menu item in the 'Edit Site module'.
However module only appears on page 2 and 3, not page one.

I checked the module_menu table and the correct module ID's and menu ID's are there.

In an attempt to get this to work I deleted the menu items and recreated the menu's then re assigned the menu's in the Edit module screen.

Now the modules do not show up at all.

BTW If I assign the same module to 'all menus' then the module does show up on all menu items

SOLVED

Problem was the openSEF database entry. I deleted the links from 'Manage Friendly URLs' at let it create them again itself by viewing the appropriate pages...all modules showed up correctly.

Is it possible to have modules show on more than one page but not all?

I've tried to do it, and looked for any references in users manual and forums, but have had no luck.

Also my Random Images module refuses to show up on front page, can only get it to show on one page at a time, and would like it to show on more than one.
Tried All, but still not show on Front Page.

Thanks for any ideas.

Yes. If you go into Modules/Site Modules from the top menu, select the module you want to work on.
In the right hand colum you should see a list of all Pages/Items on your site. You can select All or None, or, by holding down the CRTL key and clicking on individual pages, select the ones you want it to appear on.

I think that this will also work for this so long as you include "Home" as one of the pages you want to show it on.

In the FAQ i read the following.

You cannot assign a module to a URL link. This is because URL links do not have Itemids assigned to them. You also cannot assign modules to pages that are only linked via content or other, non-menu modules, because these also do not have Itemids.

One work-around for this problem is to have an unpiblished menu that contains links to the items you wish to link through non-menus. This will create an itemid that can be included in the url you link to.

--------------------

I am trying to link to URLs that are pointing to sections of the SOBI component on my website.  If I remove the item id, the module manage lets me apply a menu to the url link, but isnt on the page when i go to it. I tried doing the unpublished menu thing, but think im missing a step, or did it wrong. Does anyone have any ideas on this one?

There were some changes to the handling of itemids in 1.0.12. So now with a url link you can assign a module.
Sometimes there is an "if" that makes a position disappear in some circumstances. That may be what is happening.

Look at this http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,35591.0.html and check your template to see if you have this issue.

Nope I looked through the templates and don't have that issue.

Bascially I'm using this SOBI component, which has categories and sub categories and sub sub, etc categories of business listings of reviews.  And what I'd like to  be able to do is link from a submenu on my joomla site  to just one category of the sobi compnent instead of the whole index, for navigation purposes on the site.  Once they are linked to that part of the compnent it would be great if the submenu that linked them there would  still be visible.  For example on the site i have a "Health submenu" that links to various advice articles (joomla content items) and to local recommendations (sobi index items), so when they click the link to the reccomendation they still need that health sub menu on the left.

Currently If i add the link as a url, and remove the item id at the end and just leave the category ID then I can choose it as a page to appear on in the site module manager, but it will not appear. If i leave the item id on, as it normally appears in the link, you cannot even choose the url link  when assigning modules to specific pages.

You can look at the site at http://psp.parkslopeparents.org

currently so people can easily input data im linking them to the sobi using a wrapper, and put a custom template on the sobi component, that allows for no other modules to be shown, but this is only so people helping out can easily input data through the front end of the site.  Obviously if i leave the wrapper in place, and someone searches for content inside the sobi item, they will be directed to a page that doesnt have the right template, and cant link them back to the actual website.

Hello everyone, I just want to know if this is possible in joomla:

this is my cenario, I've created a

Section that is also in main menu called "Admissions", this has a differenct category example..."Degree Programs"...."Testing Centers"..etc etc. In "Degree Programs" category, it has a more than 1 content. To picture this:

Admissions (Section)
    |
    \-----Degree Programs (Category)
                |
                \------Content 1
                \------Content 2
                \------Content 3
                \
                \    etc..etc...

When I click "content 1" to read about it, and when I'm done reading it, I need to click back to choose a different content for the Degree Programs Category, and I found it not so flexible,

Is it possible for me to create a menu (maybe to put it at the right side panel or left side panel) that has the links of the "Degree Programs" Category and show it only when I'm inside the content of that Category?

I manage to create a menu with the links of the different content of a certain category, I just dont see a way to put that menu or show that menu when I'm inside of a certain content. I dont want the menu to show to all of the pages.

Thanks everyone, I hope someone has already solve this particular problem.

Sure.
Actually if you go to extensions that are some modules that will do that automatically.
And if you set your parameters on your menu link to "degree program" right, you can always have a list of all the other categories showing when you are in a content item.
But if you want an actual fixed menu, you need to just make a menu with links to the content items in the category.
THen assign the menu module to those links.
Are people getting to the content category by a menu link?
