[UNCONFIRMED] 1.5 Install Problems
Hi,
We're doing a fresh install of 1.5, (very recent, if not latest, nightly), and have run into some problems.
1) Nothing is getting saved to the configuration.php file. Not such a big deal, we can get past this by simply writing the configuration.php manually.
2) This is the big problem. The Admin password is not getting saved to the database by the installer. This results in an install that nobody can use. So, we're looking for a solution. Any ideas?
Looking forward to hearing lots!
John

Re: 1.5 Install Problems
Can you specify exactly what is and what is not happening?
Are your tables and such being created in the database?
I'm guessing that somehow you don't have write access to the configuration.php file. Do you have the ftp layer enabled? This may help solve that problem.
My guess would be that the inability to write the configuration.php file perhaps stops Joomla! before it writes the password.
You would have to insert the admin user into the database manually.

Re: 1.5 Install Problems
Hi, Thanks for the quick response.
The best we can tell, all tables are being created and I think some data is being inserted. We get an empty Joomla site when we look at our domain, and there is a menu item "home" which leads me to believe that something is being inserted. However jos_users is empty.
The install appears to complete however since there's no admin user we can't do anything with it.
We haven't been using the FTP layer, we'll try to re-install with it enabled and see if that works.
If we do end up needing to insert the admin user manually is anything stored hashed or can we just put the username & pass into the DB in plain text?
It'll be a few hours before we're able to try the install again so if there's anything else you can think of that would be great.

Re: 1.5 Install Problems
I can't confirm this problem. Running through the install with the root directory chmod'd to 555 and no FTP layer ( so that the installer will display the configuration file ), an admin user is created. After pasting the information into configuration.php, I can also log into the admin application using the admin account.
So, ...? I'm using PHP 5.1.4 and Mac OS X. Perhaps the webserver's error log or PHP's error log will offer some clues.

To jbeales,
You can try to create a configuration.php file with write access before you start your install process.
This way you don't need to do it manually.

Re: 1.5 Install Problems
That should not work - If configuration.php exists, the installer will fail.

Only if it's larger than 10 bytes, so an empty file should be fineCoolAcid wrote: That should not work - If configuration.php exists, the installer will fail.

Re: 1.5 Install Problems
@tcp I suggest to close this issue since there is in general no install problem.
Also we do not know the circumstances this "problem" happened.

Re: [UNCONFIRMED] 1.5 Install Problems
Hi,
We eventually gave up and went to 1.0.12. We had thought that 1.5 would be stable enough for our purposes but in all honesty it seemed to get less and less stable as time went on.
So, the problem probably still exists, but we haven't tried it recently and don't really plan to. Sorry.
