Needed: Pinoy Joomla! champion for open source collaborative project
Hello All!
An international NGO based in Manila, Philippines is presently looking for one (1) Pinoy Joomla! champion who can possibly join a team of FOSS developers in its 5-day technical meeting in Bangkok, Thailand this coming August 2007 for an open source collaborative project.
Those who have strong and relevant background on open source disaster management systems are highly preferred.
We are willing to subsidize economy round-trip (MNL-BKK-MNL) airfare costs, 4N/5D hotel accommodations, meals, and per diem.
Terms of references shall apply.
Please reply in this thread with your basic biodata and relevant Joomla! experience with your e-mail for our feedback.
Thank you very much for your attention.

Re: NEEDED: PINOY JOOMLA! CHAMPION FOR OPEN SOURCE COLLABORATIVE PROJECT
What do you mean by champion? Is it an experience level? Anyway, I have done many joomla hacks. Most of it are on http://www.pointpinas.com
I have also done a hack on fireboard enabling mambot (check out their forum).
Please give us more information on what data's are needed?

Re: Needed: Pinoy Joomla! champion for open source collaborative project
As additional information, we are looking for someone who:
1. Does actual coding on Joomla! CMS, not just into installation and configuration
2. Does Joomla! plug-in/module development.
Thanks for making this a sticky. It would surely help. And yes, this would be good exposure and experience for qualified Pinoy ka-Joomla!s since this open source collaborative project has international flavor.
For those interested, you may contact Bobby on +63.918.959.3439 for further details on or before 13 July 2007, Friday.
Yes, its Friday the 13th but it would be a lucky break for whoever can make the team. And same applies to the Pinoy ka-Joomla!s.

This is good, hehehehe. If only I dont have work that day. Maybe I can arrange that to my boss. Have done some major hacks on fireboard (modified it to support mambot) and many others (well, the fireboard is the latest hack ive done, hehehe).

So far, it seems only one ka-Joomla! is getting more interested.
I hope this list can bring in more prospects. Anyone?
Looking forward to hear from you soon... July 13, that is.
Thanks!

Re: Needed: Pinoy Joomla! champion for open source collaborative project
Hi Hacksider,
Have you contacted Bobby as we have indicated? I think it would be best to do it.
We would prefer to have a pool of interested people like you reply to us because we look at the project as something more than a one-shot deal.
My hope remains that there would be more respondents based on the minimum requirements I have posted earlier.
Sayang naman kung mapunta pa sa ibang bansa itong opportunity na ito. Perhaps you can help looking for equally interested ka-Joomla! like you.
Cheers!

I dont know much about users in joomla here in our area or near (marikina). I'm more familiar into developers of components though. kaso di din taga pinas. I hope makahanap din kayo ng mga qualified din. Im just about 1 1/2 yrs old when it comes on using joomla but have been modding it since June 2006 on some of my projects after shifting some sites from xoops to joomla.

@threadstarter - Sir, is this for Sahana?
i think the other developers here are busy with some projects thats why the forum isn't as active as before... im sure if they're just not busy right now they would surely love to pass their resumes.

Re: Needed: Pinoy Joomla! champion for open source collaborative project
Hi to all!
Thanks so much for your replies and interest.
We have now shortlisted a number of inquiries for the Bangkok project team meeting. We are in the process of finalizing the team composition involving a pool of technical writers and resource persons, both from the Philippines and abroad. The meeting will coincide with the 7th Thailand Open Source Software Festival (TOSSFEST) [URL: http://www.ossfestival.in.th] with Alex Kempkens as one of the speakers. The team looks forward to meet him there.
Yes, Guilliam. Bobby knows you. He sends his regards to you and to your group and to the rest he knows in the list. Bobby is the Project Manager of the team.
The project is spearheaded by the UNDP-International Open Source Network ASEAN+3 (URL: http://www.iosn.net) in collaboration with the Sahana Open Source Disaster Management System based in Sri Lanka. URL: http://www.sahana.lk
We know that we do have a rich resource of ka-Joomla!s here in the Philippines. It's just a matter of one's availability and possessing the desired level of technical expertise that would surely land him/her in the team. We were hoping to chance upon a female Joomla! developer to achieve gender balance but it seems no one is in the taking. Anybody knows one?
Also, we would like to take this opportunity to make a soft announcement on the Philippines' hosting of Asia Source 3 in 2009. This is a growing offshoot of Asia Source 1 (2005) held in Bangalore, India and this year's Asia Source 2 in Sukabumi, Indonesia. The Philippine delegation in both source camps have exuded the brilliance and warmth of which Pinoys are really known for in addition to our technical excellence that we equally share with our Asian brothers and sisters. Asia Source 3 is being planned to be a big event inviting more than 100 screened participants all over the world. Three possible sites in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao are being considered to host the event.
As part of our campaign, AsiaSource2-Pilipinas has been registered with the Software Freedom Day International as an official SFD2007 team. The team plans to enjoin as many FOSS groups as possible, of course, Pinoy ka-Joomla!s are invited, to be part of this global celebration during the week leading to SFD2007, 15 September 2007.
Perhaps this list can start to brainstorm what possible Joomla!-inspired event be held for SFD2007. Remember, its on 15th September 2007. The week before will surely teem with FOSS events. AsiaSource2-Pilipinas will be more than willing to welcome you in this undertaking. Please feel free to share your ideas in the list as I will be monitoring the list and exchanging ideas with you all.
We look forward to see you all and be part of SFD2007 and Asia Source 3. Though it seems 2009 is still far, making a big event as successful as its predecessors really requires sizable time and resources in the pure spirit of FOSS.
More power and empowerment! Let's connect, re-connect, and interconnect with FOSS!
