Will the paid and free categories be separated? Or better yet, do NOT allow paid software marketing at Joomla.org.

I think all extensions represented by Joomla.org should be free, just as the core operating system is. It should be the extension developer's responsibility to present an advanced paid version of his software, at his website.

so excited about this. thanks to you and everyone on the team who has been involved with this really huge project!!

my question is this... will the url's stay the same for extensions? or will they be redirected?

i'm curious how all our links here on the forums to specific extensions will fare through this transition. do you know?

thanks again!!

You'll be able to filter by paid/free. I don't ever see paid listing going away. People need to eat.

Old URLs will redirect to the new.

I figured the post would be misunderstood. (Good god it was so clear)

I am not suggesting that developers produce software for no monetary gain, I am merely stating that JOOMLA.ORG should not be a representing source for commercial software. Instead, the developer does the marketing at his site, a very successful method used by WordPress.org.

Agree.

There is not reason to not let commercial extension also have their presence at Joomla.org. It should though be clear to follow the rules what is free or not free not hiding into some tricky set ups.

The commercial extensions and 3pds devs also have their part to strengthen the Joomla community as whole and this should encourage 3pds in their competition with others in the same category of products/solutions/apps.

Some of the best extensions in the JED are paid for extensions. I like free stuff too, but it's nice to be able to get specific specialty software at a paid price. Some folks do really well with the paid arena. This is coming from someone who does not have much money (I can be pretty sure you're wealthier than me).

On the subject of allowing/not allowing to list J! paid extensions at JED.

Imo, it's not about paid add-ons developers' marketing their J! extensions at JED. It's actually about presenting J! end users more options to make informative decision while looking for a certain additional functionality.

Without JED such end users would've been left on their own, having to go to do their research from site to site, which most likely would end up in purchasing gambling.

With JED they have all the candidate extensions under the same roof, each with its profile plus customers' reviews, which makes their purchasing decision just a piece of cake.

JED is a win/win situation for everyone involved: for Joomla! itself, for it's 3-rd party developers and for it's end user. Marvelous! :)

I guess the "pre-access" period for developers hasn't started yet?

Currently, HTTP authentication prevents access to the new site.

Wow, thanks for making it publicly visible. :D Looking quite slick. I'm curious about how the new scoring system works.

I have only one complaint about the new JED. There is no "Recently Updated" link. A "Recently Updated" link should be included in the "Browse Extensions" drop down menu. The current JED has this feature, it allows us as users to see what extensions are being put up to date or what extensions do we have to possibly update.

I tried using the search form to search all extensions by last modified with no luck. Aside from this, everything else is looking great.

Very exciting with the new JED. I have some difficulties with the search form too. Tried some terms and couldn't find related results.

I've just updated an extension of mine and it disappeared then on my "My Extensions" page. I have no idea about that, please advise.

PS: posted a ticket on the Listing Support, but not sure if you guys are monitoring it on the dev site.

Something is wrong with the extension icons. PNG transparency gets mangled.

I guess we need to update our images/screenshots to match the new layout. Do you have any recommendations about the image size(s) we need to use?

Concerning the images i noticed that images with transparent background are getting black.
Possibly the style about the background is set to black.
I suggest to change that as it was (to white), so that not everybody needs to re-upload his images

I'm guessing no one is noticing the red banner at the top that says not to update anything as we fix a bug?
