Unpublished for unknown licensing violation

Postby sourcecoast » Wed Oct 25, 2017 2:35 pm

We received an email last week that our extension violates the JED licensing guidelines. We responded immediately and the ticket was assigned, but 8 days later, it's still unpublished.

The email was very vague and not specific to our listing, which makes it very difficult to discern what's wrong. As for our licensing, we haven't changed or altered our policy in more than 5 years and haven't made any recent updates to our site regarding our policies. There are simply no 'additional' restrictions on top of the GPL.

The ticket is 18296. If we're doing something wrong, we'll gladly fix it; any perceived violation is unintentional... we just need a response or clarification to know what's possibly wrong.

Thanks,
Alex

Was the email you received one of these boilerplate responses: https://github.com/joomla/jed-issues/wi ... -Templates

Yes, it was. It was the "Licensing Issues" one which helpfully explains how Joomla is licensed, but if you're found in violoation, doesn't help explain why.

Either way, I'm very happy to say that our extension was republished and we are good to go. It was a terminology issue on our support and purchase page, but not something that actually falls afoul of the GPL.

Thanks for everyone's time!

Actually, I was incorrect.. it was published for a day then unpublished again.. working on it still.. but communication is good, so no complaints.

I'm still in unpublished... waiting. I received an update on October 25th explaining the term in our licensing explanation page that caused confusion and on October 30th, we removed that whole section. Now we're just waiting for some sort of resolution, which I can only imagine would be the extension being re-published.

If there's anything else we need to do, please let us know. I don't want to submit more tickets saying we're done.. please double check, but I'm out of ideas.

Yes, on October 30th. When I originally created this thread, I had a response to my ticket within a few hours. Unsure if it's SOP to respond to ticket and then have to post here as well, but hoping this helps push things along since it's been almost 2 weeks since the last response.

Ticket #18926

Another week and still no response. Is there something else to be done? We've removed the text that was apparently causing the confusion, even though it had been in our terms for more than 4 years.

At this point, we're just waiting for some clarification if there's still something wrong or for someone to hit the "Published" button.

I understand wanting to make sure all extensions meet the minimum terms and other requirements to be listed.. but to have an extension unpublished without warning for a term that could "cause confusion especially across different languages." If it was a flagrant violation, sure, delist immediately, but in this case and for the cause given, it seems excessive.

It seems a message indicating the extension has issues and will be unpublished if not rectified is better than unpublishing and then having to wait a month and a half to be republished for a possibly confusing statement.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Another week has gone by. I responded to the ticket again today. My last reply was on October 30th. I'm assuming/hoping a reply doesn't push me to the back of the queue, if that's why it's taking so long to respond. I originally had a response within a week, so I'm assuming something else is going on.

If there's anyone that can explain what we can do to have our extension republished now that the possibly confusing language has been cleared up, we'd really appreciate it. We get multiple people a week asking why we're unpublished and what we're violating of the GPL. All I can do is point them to this topic to let them know that we've done all we can and are just waiting for further clarification or re-instatement.

Thanks,
Aex

Following up again a week later to determine if there's anything I can be doing. No response to my last reply on the ticket either. I've responded to the ticket on October 30th and November 28th without any reply from the JED. I'm open to any direction here to help get things re-instated.

Thanks,
Alex

Checking in again, 9 days later. I'm glad to hear the JED has surpassed 8000 extensions. We'd love to have ours listed again as well. There's still been no response to the ticket although we made the update requested more than a month ago now and replied to the ticket twice.

If there's anything we're missing, please let us know.

Thanks,
Alex

It's been exactly 2 months now since our extension was delisted on October 17th. The timeline is:
* 10/17 - Extension delisted
* 10/17 - We responded for clarification - Ticket assigned to Darek
* 10/25 - Jaz responds with more info
* 10/25 - Jaz responds again with more details
* 10/30 - We responded stating we removed the possibly confusing text - Ticket again assigned to Darek
* 11/28 - We followed up asking for help and if there was still a problem - Ticket remains assigned to Darek
I'm not sure if we're just assigned to someone who's not able to view our ticket or what, but we really would like to get this fixed.

Can anyone help? I don't want to spam the ticket system, of course, but I would like to know what we need to do to get our extension re-instated after more than 2 months.

Please help!
