I can't write review " IP masking service or VPN" issue

Hi,
I can't write any reviews on extensions @ https://extensions.joomla.org/extension , because I always got

Code: Select all

Security checks determined you may be using an IP masking service or VPN. To continue, you need a different Internet connection.
error message. I am not using any of these services. My IP is changing every one week, it is not black listed etc.

How to avoid this?

See if starting your browser in 'safe' mode makes a difference. Alternatively, try again with another browser.

Hi,

We are in the process of the redesigning the current security checks, originally implemented on JED.

In the meantime, to clarify how to overcome the current limitations. This is the updated message:

Security checks determined you may be using an IP masking service, a VPN or a server is actively running on your desktop IP. To continue, you need a different Internet connection.

So, if you find the validation issue, please check the following points on your side:
  • You may be using an IP masking service
  • A VPN
  • A server is actively running on your desktop IP

I understand why IP masking service and VPN are blocked, but what does it matter if the workstation with the browser connection or another device in the same LAN runs a server application? Is JED now running port scans?

Hi,

Reviews can't be submitted from public servers.

Most of the times, spam reviews are sent from compromised workstations, running some sort of script.

Thanks for clarifiying this. My ISP is leasing the IP addresses for one week. If someone used the same IP address in the past, I will be banned just because someone else used a VPN or ran a server or whaterver service that is banned.

It would be better if someone logs in, than that IP should be whitelisted for a month or so.

I know this could be very hard to make a good algo and filter out bad behaviour computers out of millions of IPs, but there could be some other method. Captcha? than whitelist the IP for some time.

I'm on a computer at work behind a proxy, not public, no VPN - IP Masking doubtful. Other than that, I don't understand why I too am unable to post reviews.
I searched first, I swear I did...

Yes, a proxy could be configured in a way that it fails the spam checks.

Problem with rating....

Hello,
i am new joomla user and so i have created an account on extensions.joomla.org and i have tried to give a rating for an extension...

...and now i get the error:

"Security checks determined you may be using an IP masking service, a VPN or a server is actively running on your desktop IP. To continue, you need a different Internet connection."

But i have nothing of the above named things installed. I only have a computers -> firewall -> Internet... My firewall has one external IP and thats ist.

Please, can you tell what the problem is?
