Joomla Developer 1.0x Entire Manual (Home-made CHM from site)
I was surprised to find out that there wasn't a full PDF or CHM file to download the developer manual. I was a bit frustrated so I decided to create one myself from the PDF's of each section. I made two separate files for the developer manual and for the PatTemplate manual. I am finding it quite useful, and I thought I'd share!
Enjoy!

Hi sula70,
Thanks for your contribution. I'm sure there are many people who will appreciate it.
We are looking into the possibility of having a directory of contributed documentation and I would like to include these documents as and when that happens. In the meantime whenever anyone asks for Joomla! 1.0.12 developer documentation in CHM format I'll be directing them to this thread.
Thanks again for sharing.
Regards,
Chris.

Re: Joomla Developer 1.0x Entire Manual (Home-made CHM from site)
Yes and no.
The next but one item on my to-do list is to move all the developer content off the help site and onto dev.joomla.org, so I don't want to link from the help site only to have to move them again. So yes, I would like to add them, just not to the help site and not immediately (but soon). As and when we set up the contributed documentation directory they will likely be moved into that (medium term).
Regards,
Chris.

Point taken.
However it isnt really "contributed documentation" as that implies it is extra documentation but rather exisiting documentation in a different format.

It is contributed in the sense that it has been packaged into a form that we were not planning to make it available.

Chris.

Re: Joomla Developer 1.0x Entire Manual (Home-made CHM from site)
Semantically you are correct about the interpretation of the word "contributed" however taking the two words together "contributed documentation" together I believe you are mistaken as there is no documentation contributed.
Either way the problem is that if you put this alternate format document in a separate section 99.9% of users will believe that it is a different document to the official one.
Other projects usually handle this by putting a "chm contributed by" tag with the document name
I appreciate that one potential issue would be that if the official document is updated the contributed one may not be in sync. Other projects usually handle this by putting a release/updated date with the document name

@ sulo70
Excellent piece of work on own initiative. Just the type of attitude that's needed within the Joomla! community.
@Chris
Would it be a News worthy release for the News Page on joomla.org?. Not being a coder I wouldn't know where to begin with it, but I am sure others will find the fact that it is available in this format very useful, at least as a starting point.

Mmm, good idea. I'll wait until we have them properly hosted on dev.joomla.org though.humvee wrote: Would it be a News worthy release for the News Page on joomla.org?.

Well, a developer manual for Joomla 1.0 exists.sula70 wrote:I was surprised to find out that there wasn't a full PDF or CHM file to download the developer manual.
I wrote it down last year and published on my site.
It's a 250 pages manual, but it's in italian.

Excellent - compiled documentation
I just downloaded and checked it but all the links are dead in the help file so there is no visible content ?
Does anybody know of a live version knocking around ?
