Contact integration between Joomla & CiviCRM

Post by fyica » Sun Jan 07, 2007 11:50 pm

Hi, I`, new to both joomla & civiCRM.
I recently installed CiviCRM using the 'manual' installation. It seems to be working fine, I can upload contacts in CSV files to CiviCRM groups, tags etc.
The problem I`m having is I need my uploaded CiviCRM contacts to be accessible through the Joomla Contacts manager e.g. for having them listed in the Joomla Contact catagory Tables.

Any suggestions?

You'll have to write custom code to accomplish the above potentially using CiviCRM api and/or CiviCRM hooks. Please check our wiki for more details on either of the above

Thanks for the suggestion. I am not currently able to write my own code, although I am in the process of learning. - for a short term fix, is there any capability to upload a csv file into the joomla contacts manager? (the way I uploaded it into CiviCRM)

Load the CSV straight into the Joomla table via PHPMyAdmin or similar tool.

I really wouldn't do it. The contact manager has many problems.
What is it that you want to use the contact manager to do?

I'm a newbie too so please forgive errors....

My understanding is that Civicrm contacts are people whom you (the web site) send mails to (your address book of people you may wish to contact and raise funds from), whereas Joomla contacts are the people to whom visitors to your site may contact - i.e. contacts on the contact form such as web master, customer support, and so on.

Do you mean joomla members ? if so JUICE can be used to load in a csv file (username, password, email) into the members table(s). JUICE is an extension available from joomla extensions.
