Import relationship data

Post by richanx » Tue Mar 06, 2007 2:05 pm

I'm looking to set up a batch of new relationships from a csv file. The realtionship in question is actually an new type of relationship, but along the same lines as employee/employer where A is an individual and B is an org.

Both the individuals and orgs are all already set-up as contacts in CiviCRM. I have the details of the contacts in a csv file (row headings along the lines of: Title, 1st Name, Surname and Organisation name). I had assumed by importing the individuals and setting the relationship to match the organisation name, CiviCRM could set up my new relationships. But no matter which import options I specify they are not created. ???

Can anyone suggest how to do this; for example am I filling or updating duplicates, and how should I match the data fields?

Thanks a lot

We are using v1.6 on Joomla.

I can't log in to the demoback end (http://demo.civicrm.org/joomla/administrator/index.php), using the demo username and password?

OK have given this a go on the demo site, with no success.

Here is what I have done:
  • Created a new relationship type: "Membership contact of/is" for orgs/inds.
  • Set up a new Orgisation, with the name VAR
  • Set up a new Individual, with the first name System, second name Admin
  • Created a CSV file with the following data; first name: System, second name: Admin, org: VAR, web address: http://www.varotherham.org.uk/
  • Imported the file to CiviCRM, as individuals; matching first name, second name and web address to the individual's fields and Org to be Membership contact of: Organisation name

I tried this by both updating and filling duplicates, the web address was added to the indviduals record so the import worked, but the relationship was not created?

Thanks for any help

Is it creating a new record for the organization?
