Beware of 1and1.com

Post by twowheeler » Fri Mar 30, 2007 11:29 am

For those of us using http://www.1and1.com hosting and having problems installing civicrm, this may be the reason:
Can the memory usage limit be increased on shared hosting with a php.ini file?

Due to resource limits on our Shared Hosting machines, it is not possible to allocate more than 20M
of memory to PHP, although phpinfo() may report a higher number. You will be unable to increase
the memory usage limit with a php.ini file.
There you have it.  There is no sense beating your head against this wall, so get a new hosting service.

What other implications does this have with Joomla?

I use 1and1 (shared hosting) and have or will be moving some of the sites oer to Joomla in the near future. I don;t think I will be using CiviCRM, but would be interested to know if this will effect anything else.
