Symlinks - security issues

Hi, I just need a little guidance with the following info I've received from my webhost.

* The following files (symlinks) could be insecure as you are not the owner of the destination file.

logs.previousfile.1...........

* The following files (symlinks) could be insecure as they point outside your home directory.

logs.previousfile.1...........

------------------------------

Please let me know if you need more information.
But I'd be happy if someone could just elaborate more for me or point me in the right direction or advise where in the joomla security docs I can get some helpful info.
