Joomla Wiki - I want to contribute, but it seems impossible

Post by toskan » Mon Dec 30, 2013 3:54 am

Hello

This is my 3rd and yes, last attempt. I've written an E-Mail, I've written a (slightly frustrated) forum post asking to join or for getting the rights to correct wrong, buggy or incomplete wiki articles. How nice of me, right? Well I thought that's really nice of me... but nobody cared.

So I did my homework:
http://docs.joomla.org/JDOC:How_to_Cont ... umentation

Why don't we go ahead and correct this article? I certainly have no rights to correct anything.
But this ain't working:
A quick cheat to start your user page:
actions drop down
create
add the code to editor{{subst:Newuser}}
fill in summary (e.g. my new user page)
save
there is no create

The pages I want to correct are typically protected as well.

Just a little example:
http://docs.joomla.org/J2.5:Developing_ ... Adding_ACL

Quote: "(TODO: zip has to be updated! Will be done coming days...)"

I am not sure for how long this text was there, but for long, thats for sure.
So I could actually do that, because I am walking myself through this tutorial - RIGHT NOW.

But I cannot, since I have no rights to change the article.

My wiki username is
Jossnaz

do I have to beg on my knees for this? It really shouldnt be that way, sad, very sad

Hi toskan

When did your 1st and 2nd attempts took place? Please note that we're on "low activity mode" for a few days due to holidays season (in many countries). If you tried within the last few days, I'll have to ask you for a little bit more patience, as hopefully next week activity will get back to normal.

Regarding protected pages, I'm not 100% aware of the criteria why a page is protected or not, but I am well aware about the spam issues most of our infrastructures have, so unfortunately it's necessary for many pages.

Thank you very much for your will to contribute. I really hope you'll be able to put your bit on Joomla sooner than later ;).

Happy New Year!

well in the end of november. So this was not during the holiday season ;-)
One of my postings got over 700 views already. There really are pressing matters.

You don't know how to connect me to the right person either?

Hi Toskan,

Very few pages are actually protected (mostly just those that have been consistently targetted by spammers), so you should be able to change just about anything on the wiki as long as you are logged in. I have, however, added you to the Editors group which will enable you to edit protected pages too.

Please let myself or Tom Hutchison know if you have any further difficulties.

Thanks,
Chris.
