iso-8859-1 to utf-8 how?

Post by BreathWork » Thu Mar 27, 2008 11:59 am

I have a mysql db using iso-8859-1 and I want to change to utf-8 so that utf-8 language files work correctly with the content and joomfish translations.

How do I do the data conversion? 8)

I had a similar problem in my site. The site is in Greek, so I have UTf-8 encoding. In some cases, like joomla javascript calendars, the characters were encoded in an other encoding (ISO-something).

Try to locate the file that displays the incorrect characters. Edit the file in a text editor like Notepad++ and choose the right encoding (Go to FORMAT -> ENCODE IN UTF)

You will probably need the correct file, so you may need to download it again. Usually it is a language file.

I don't know if that helps... Anyway!

Hi,
I am having the same problem. My website is a multilingual football community and we need to support as many languages as possible (english, italian, french, *greek*) It is clear that we need utf-8 encoding, but I am not sure on how to make the conversion.
I found this as the best explanation: http://help.joomla.org/component/option ... temid,268/
Has anyone ever follow these instructions? They don't seem to clear in some points to me.
If anyone had the same experience and manage to solve the issue, please let me know.

I'm using a program called "Sisulizer's Kaboom" to convert files between different encoding. Choose the file you want to convert and the progam will convert the file. Then load up the file to your site. It works for me when I have language files in wrong encoding. Hope it helps. :)

You can find it at http://www.sisulizer.com/kaboom/index.shtml and you can use it for free.
Search and find the answer
