Yes this will be enough for most websites.  If you are getting less than 100-200 hits per day - you should be fine.

GoDaddy has the 1.0 Version. This is more stable at the moment.

Once Joomla is installed you will then need to learn Joomla and web programming.  But my instructions above will get Joomla up and running on your website.  You should buy the book Joomla for Beginners and you will need to learn HTML and CSS and at least some basic PHP programming.  Good luck!

Do you need to use version 1.5? With GoDaddy as of right now they have the prior build.  If you don't mind use the prior (stable) build I will write out the steps and it will take you 5 minutes to be up and running!

You don't have to use the 1.5 version with GoDaddy.

Godaddy includes Joomla 1.0.13 in their free packages. So you don't have to ftp/upload it: see this Godaddy Tutorial:

It is good for people with slow connections, but does not have the latest 1.5 version yet.

When you activate the Joomla via your Godaddy admin (see Tutorial) it takes you through the steps that you have outlined in your pdf,
and it is important to note down name of database and passwords (especially if you are setting up database driven Forms on your website).

Hello, Can someone please help. I get to step 6 and my domin name is not there? All that I see is New Account (Linux), and next to it says setup account? I also watched the vide tutorial, and it did list New Account (It also said setup account next to it) Although, Below that it listed a domain. How do I get my domain to appear in that list so I can click "open"? Also, has anyone tried this method to insall Joomla? Seems like the best way to go to me. Thanks for your time.

Ok, first you need to have a hosted domain and the hosting under the LINUX hosting plan.  Economy Plan for Linux is OK until you have a need for more and it is then easy to upgrade with GoDaddy.    Once you have this, the steps to install are:

1.  Go to http://www.godaddy.com and log Into your account with Go Daddy.
2.  On the right/middle of screen column click on "My Account". It is blue and underlined.
3.  There is a list of different things, click on "Manage Accounts"
4.  Click on the link to your website
5.  Another screen will show up will a lot of information on your website.    On the top right corner is a link to click for "Manage Hosting Accounts".  Click on it.
6.  This will open a list of your website(s) and you should see near your website name the word "open".  This opens your Control Panel.  Click on this.
7.  This will open another screen or tab, and your will see an Account Summary.  Underneath you will see "Settings" "Content" "Databases".   Click on "Content" to open open this.
8.  On the bottom row of choices you will see "GoDaddy Hosting Connection".   Click on this.
9.  On the right you will see a list starting with "Advertising" "Blogs" "Content Management" etc...  Click on "Content Management".
10.  You will see Joomla as an option of 10 items.  Click on this.
11.  Then in the middle of the screen you will see information on Joomla, click the "Install Now" bottun.
12.  You will now have 4 steps.  1.  Choose your domain.  Do this.   Press Continue on the bottom right of the screen.
                                              2. Choose a Database Name and a password.   You need to do this and write it down.  Press
                                              Next on the bottom right of the screen.
                                              3.  Next it is to name the directory.  You will see your domain name a "/" and "Joomla".  DELETE
                                              "Joomla" to install directly into your Root Directory.  This is what most people recommend to do.
                                              Press Next.
                     
         Note:  I did not continue past this point because I did not want to overwrite my directory.  But Just follow the instructions and then you're done.   It may take up to 4 or 5 hours for you to be able to log into Joomla.

Just a note under the domain details, it says not hosted here. I assume this is the problem, but not sure. If this is the problem how do I fix it? Any help would be appriciated. Thanks  ??? Very confused.  :'(

Thanks for the reply. I figured that was the problem. Do I want to use the free credit "Select the domain you wish to associate this Free Hosting account with"? If you don't mind I'd love a hand, but I am not sure how to pm you either  . I think it's because I am a noob here, it wont let me pm yet?  I don't see the option for it. Thanks for your time.

I've read this entire thread, and though a lot comes close nothing seems exactly like what I've got happening. I have Joomla 1.5RC3 running on the main domain, all seems well so far. I created a sub domain and used the Go Daddy application to set up a Joomla 1.0.13. I made the .htaccess change suggested for GoDaddy and everything seemed fine. The site displays correctly, but when you click on a left navbar menu link or read more link you get the following error:

Not Found

The requested URL /nkwebart/index.php was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Apache/1.3.33 Server at nkwebart.com Port 80

Hopefully, this is a simple fix. I saw the solution suggesting the root be set up with a www folder (http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,31497.0.html) with the domains in folders within it.

find Options +FollowSymLinks change it to Options FollowSymLinks

Thanks, but it did not.

Same message.

I notice that the top menu items, which work, have mydomain.com/index.php? but the left column menu items, which don't work, are missing the index.php? resulting in the message above. If I add the index.php? to the URL it loads properly.

I guess the question is, where do I place this, index.php? so it loads into the URL? Other folks have had to run into this before with subdomains in Go Daddy, right? Maybe not.

SEO - Search Engine Friendly Links set to Yes apparently doesn't work, or there is some other work around to make it work. I set it to "No" and everything works.

have you uncommented RewriteBase added you sub directory to it ie:
Rewitebase /joomla

Hi Darkcat
Linux hosting would be better choice for Joomla as it requires php,and mysql.
php isn't normally available on windows hosting.

as for uploading any ftp program will work.
you would need to manually create your database and would have to edit configuration.php to have the correct absolute and cache paths, livesite.

an other way would be to use their value applications site to install Joomla for you then upload any changes you have made. uplaod a copy of your database to the dbbackups directory then login to host manager >mysql click on the pencil icon for you joomla database this will open a page for you to backup or restore you database click restore locate your database sql file click ok and it will load the file to your database for you
