site not displaying

Post by humber_now » Tue May 12, 2009 4:34 pm

Hello,

I have just moved my site to the root directory however it does not display, instead I get - Error file not found.

However, if I type www.thedailyplanet.com/index.php
it displays just fine.

How do I get www.thedailyplanet.com to display correctly?

Simply place the following in your .htaccess file in root:

Code: Select all

DirectoryIndex index.php index.html
This will cause apache to load the php file first if present otherwise load the index.html file.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you mean, my htaccess file has almost everything blocked out, and I don't know where to place the code you sent me.

Could you please be more specific?
Thank you,
Caroline

Place the code at the top of the .htaccess file.

I changed the htaccess.txt to .htaccess and put the code at the top, but that didn't change anything and the file disappeared from the directory, I cannot see it.

My home page is still not loading and the home links are not working.

The period in front of htaccess makes it an invisible file. You should be able to adjust your FTP client to show you invisible files.

Your site is trying to display an image using this code

Code: Select all

<html><body><img alt="http://www.thedailyplanet.com/" src="http://www.thedailyplanet.com/">
and it can't find the image.

When I placed the .htaccess file and made it visible this is the error I got when I went to my homepage (www.thedailyplanet.com)

This is the error I receive now:

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@smartwebservers.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Apache/1.3.37 Server at www.thedailyplanet.com Port 80

I removed the .htaccess file and now I am back to the error file not found.

What file can I alter to change the Code:
<html><body><img alt="http://www.thedailyplanet.com/" src="http://www.thedailyplanet.com/">

to

Code:
<html><body><img alt="http://www.thedailyplanet.com/index.php" src="http://www.thedailyplanet.com/index.php">

Thanks!

I'm having the same issue...I tried the above and it's not working for me either. Have you been able to resolve this?

Nevermind..I was able to figure it out...had to do quite a few things:
1. Rename htaccess.txt to .htaccess (had to do it in ftp...not on server)
2. inside .htcaccess add "DirectoryIndex index.php index.html" to the very top of the file
3. remove "#" from in front of RewriteBase /
4. In the administrator site -> Global Configuration -> set "Use Apache mod_rewrite" to yes

No more index.php in the URL's now!!

Thanks!
