Export User Table including Passwords

Post by jroussel » Wed May 03, 2006 5:48 pm

I'm in the process of moving to a new webhosting company.  All I have left to do is export the user table, including the passwords, from the old webhost to the new webhost.  I have read through the forums, but could not find a clear explanation on how to export the user table to a CSV file with the passwords intact, using phpMyAdmin and then how to import it into the new user table.

I don't want to dump the whole database. I just want to export the User Table to a CSV file.  I would be SOOOO greatful, if someone could give me step by step instructions on how to do this. :D

TIA
Juanita

Hi Apollo,

Yes, I did read this.  But this is exporting the whole database.  I just need to know how to export the User table to a CSV and then import the CSV into a new User Table, with the passwords intact.  I was hoping there were some simple step by step instructions for it, but I haven't found any so far.

Thanks.

Hi,

Check out D4J User Synch extension http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

Maybe useful for your issue.

Regards Robin

edit; it is commercial, going to check if there is an open source tool as well

edit-2; cant find any open source that quick, but why not just export the related user tables with pypMyAdmin and import them again?

Instead of the entire database you only need to select the jos_user table and export them.

Dont forget the tables;

- jos_core_acl_aro
- jos_core_acl_groups_aro_map

They contain the access level settings for the corresponding users which you are exporting from jos_users.

Hi Robin,

That's exactly what I want to do.  I know how to export the file to a CSV, I'm just not sure about how to import it into the new user table with the passwords intact and secure.

Hi,

The passwords will be exported as md5 hashed code. So they will also be imported like this. Safe, and should not be a problem. Just try it...
