Discussion for: FAQ for Joomla 1.5 beta
Here you can discuss stuff about this topic: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,105877.0.html

Re: Discussion for: FAQ for Joomla 1.5 beta
Regarding the "no update path" statement:
Does this mean that there will be no automated way to migrate data, etc from 1.5b to 1.5? Or does it mean that there will be instructions on how to do it but no automated upgrade script? Or does it mean that the databases will be totally incompatible and there will be no way to migrate articles and templates will break, etc etc etc?
I would like to get a jump on things by designing my site and start uploading content and then go live when there is a stable version, but if I will have to start completely from scratch then I probably shouldn't be doing anything at the moment.
Any clarification would be appreciated.
Thanks

I don't understand, that don't really answer the question .Tonie wrote: More information here.
What I think Meck want to know (and me too ) is that:
Will in the future a patch be created to upgrade "Joomla 1.5 Beta" to "Joomla 1.5 Stable".
I understand that it will never exist a patch to upgrade Joomla1.1 to Joomla1.5 because these two versions are really different.
But I can't understand the reasons why it is said in the 1.5 faq :
I would enjoy if someone can explain these reasons to me because to my mind this patch (1.5Beta to 1.5Stable) would be really usefull and I suppose only few files will change.Q: Will there be an update path from 1.5 beta to stable?
A: No.
Thanks in advance

Re: Discussion for: FAQ for Joomla 1.5 beta
Just do the funny thing and check the SVN for changed files since beta. Its somewhere around a few hundreds... We are not providing you a patch from beta to stable because
a) it is more than enough work to create these
b) 1.5 beta is not a system that should be used for production, only for testing, therefore, no need to update or something. Just reinstall.
c) the database could change with sample data values and all, which would mean, we would have to take that into effect, too.

Ok
I have not imagine there would be so many changes needed.
Thanks for the fast reply.

Re: Discussion for: FAQ for Joomla 1.5 beta
Please consider adding Barrie's Joomla! v 1.5 Template Tutorial to the FAQ. It seems many ask about template changes and including this in the FAQ could (potentially ) save a few questions.

Re: Discussion for: FAQ for Joomla 1.5 beta
Is it at all possible to give a rough idea when a stable release of 1.5 will be ready?
Are we talking 2007, 2008, 2020?
I know the official answer to this question is "When it's ready". But is it not possible to narrow that down a bit?
