Thanks VMGuru!

Can I suggest that all who recommend a book provide the direct link on our Joomla! Amazon Bookstores? http://shop.joomla.org.

This is because the Joomla! Project (OSM) receives a small commission for any sales made throught our shop. This is one of the ways that the project raises funds to operate.

Thank You for supporting the project!

jackjackjack,

Would you be interested in writing a book review after reading the book (that could be published on the community site)?

It does not have to be long review, maybe two or three paragraphs.

"Mastering Joomla" is my bible! I recommend it to anybody serious about extension programming.

I also am looking for a good book on Joomla. From reviews on Amazon and other places, I get the impression that most of the books available spend far too much time rehashing easy-to-understand parts, like the section-category-article trinity.

Much info is available on the web, of course, but I have yet to find a good explanation of modules and menus, the "standard" menus availalbe (top-menu, user1, etc.) and when/where they are available. It would also be good to find a schema for linking menus to what one sees on the front-end screen, which obviously involves modules.

Only after all this, would I feel ready to start studying the modification or writing of templates. (I know a bit of PHP and am pretty conversant with CSSs.)

So what book -- or web URL -- addresses these needs?

Thanks in advance for recommendationss for books or informative web sites.

I would like to encourage everyone to purchase Joomla! books (as well as any other book) from the Joomla! Amazon bookstores.

http://shop.joomla.org/

The Joomla! Project makes a small commission on all sales made through their Amazon stores.

If you find any Joomla! books that are not yet listed in our Joomla! Amazon bookstores, please list them in this forum.

That way, the Joomla! Shop Team can add them to our Amazon bookstores.

Thank you!

Good idea, but all the books your shop points to at Amazon.fr are in French. Sure, I can read French, since I live "here", but I prefer English in this case. Couldn't you point to English books too? I could buy at Aamazon.com, but it would take longer and cost more (postage).

joneall,

You should find the link to the English Joomla books on the right column in the Joomla! Amazon bookstore.

I saw a book specifically on Joomla 1.5 template development, but now I can't find it. Anyone familiar with it?

I'm new to Joomla, but not web development. So I'm specifically looking for a book on templating and site architecture. I don't need basic info on CMS, CSS and SEO. I'm also not an extensions developer.

Any book recommendations for me?

Thanks, I'm excited to learn your platform...

For anyone interested, I highly recommend...

Joomla! 1.5 Template Design
by Tessa Blakeley Silver

If you're new to Joomla templating, but know your css/html, this a great way to quickly dive in.

Hi Michelle,

You have my full support - moral and financial. Everyone should be seeking ways to give something back to this great community whenever possible!

I've been using Joomla for the past 5 years and before that Mambo. During this time I've met a lot of great people. I've attended Joomla! Days, I've built great web pages - I couldn't have done it without the Joomla! Community.

Anyway, some time ago I was looking for a Joomla 1.6 book, and somehow I found this thread. I followed your advice and used your link to enter Amazon. I decided to purchase the book that caught my interest (The Official Joomla! Book) - but since I was a bit busy that day I bookmarked this thread to be sure to find my way back and be supportive.

Unfortunately, I forgot to complete the purchase when I got back home and didn't buy it before a couple of days later when I was at the airport and had some available time..

I guess Joomla.org had a technical problem or something that day, because I could not access either this link, the root domain or any of it's subdomains. Since I didn't have any affiliate link available I purchased it directly from Amazon.com.

Are there any cookies involved that will prevent Joomla! from losing it's commission in such cases? If so, what is Amazon's current cookie window? If not, your are leaving money on the table!

Have anyone considered moving away from today's "iframe" solution?
Really, it doesn't look good when Joomla! is not able to show the full width and cuts the product text and images in half (right hand side) and I have to scroll sidewise when using the shop!

Also, when we are not able to see/share links (e.g. social bookmarking, Facebook shares, Tweets from web browsers) to exciting products without manually do some digging to find the product's URLs we are talking about lost opportunities in big numbers!

If finance is a concern, this issues should be taken care of.

Kind regards,
Trond :-)
