[FIXED] - Joomla, editors, and Firefox 1.5 beta 2

I am unabled to see content in the intro or body text areas. I have tested with tinymce and mosCE 1.0.3 on Joomla 1.0.2 and 1.0.3. This worked fine with Firefox 1.5 beta 1 and the current 1.0.7 and all earlier versions of Firefox. Frustrating as Firefox 1.5 is so much faster on Mac OS X its feels like I have a new server.

Two observations:

1. You are using a beta release - so anything is possible.
2. More likely - the .js files have changes slightly and may be tripping privacy, security or antivirus software on your computer.

I was mainly posting to see if anyone else had seen the problem. I am on a Mac and don't have any antivirus, spyware catching or anything to get in the way. I was mainly wondering if the PC version of Firefox 1.5 beta 2 has a similar problem.

Thanks for the response. I think I will try to find an installer for Mac Firefox 1.5 beta 1 as it is so much faster with mosCE and all of Joomla that  it pains me to go without it.

Is there a bug tracker for Firefox? (I'm not sure myself)

Perhaps it might be worth reporting the issue to them, it might be a undocumented problem.

Same problem with the Windows version of Firefox 1.5b2 .. however the Linux version seemed to work fine yesterday with HTMLArea3 XTD  (did not upgrade it yet)  .. weird, eh?  ???

EDIT: Sure enough, after upgrading to TMEdit (http://www.xhtmlsuite.com/tmedit), things seem to work fine under Windows ... now to see if Linux still werks  :-\

I went back to Firefox 1.5 beta 1 and turned off the auto-update feature and all is well again using mosCE 1.0.3 on Joomla 1.0.3.

I tested Firefox 1.5 RC1 on Mac OS X 10.4.3 and continue to be unable to edit or create articles in Joomla. I tested Joomla 1.0.3 with mosCE 1.0.3 and Joomla 1.1 with TinyMCE. Firefox 1.5 beta 1 and the earlier stable 1.0.7 operate correctly. I will submit another bug notice to the Firefox team.

I am seeing the same problem with the latest nightly build of Camino and Firefox 1.5 RC1 - but had no problem with earlier builds of Camino or Firefox.  I am running on OS X 10.4.3 with Java embedding plugin installed.

Camino 1.0a1 works just fine - http://www.caminobrowser.org/ - just is a bit slow running on the javascript / java bits.

Safari works - sort-of - but the problems with Safari are of its own making...

I tried TMEdit and it didn't work on Mac OS X for me in Firefox 1.5RC1.

I'm using Flock 0.5pre, which is based on Firefox 1.5 and works correctly. Both on Windows and Debian.

Same problem here. I was able to use the WSIWG in the older versions in firefox, but I cannot see any images or icons now in the admin of the most current Joomla! release. Also, I have not found one template, yet, that views correctly in firefox. If anyone has info on this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Jyn,

Are you having these problem on Mac OS X? I am not having the issues you describe with images, icons and template issues. All of those aspects are working fine and in fact htmlArea as a Javascript editor works correctly within Sugar CRM 3.5.1b. I tried Joomla 1.0.3 and 1.1 prerelease with TMEdit, mosCE and TinyMCE and it does not draw the text area fields. If I turn visual editors off, the text areas are correctly displayed with raw html. Please explain your config more if you can.

Text area not rendering in this configuration:

Joomla 1.0.3 & 1.1
mosCE 1.0.3 and other editors
Firefox 1.5 beta 2 and RC1 (works fine with beta 1 and the stable 1.0.x releases)
Mac OS X 10.4.2 & 10.4.3

Jyn,

I am still not sure why you aren't seeing graphics and icons. However, I may have found a solution to the issues I was having with the Javascript editors. In Preferences for Content I went to the Advanced Javascript and enabled all options. I now seem to have text areas rendering correctly.

I was wrong about the solution apparently. I have found that when I am on the same Ethernet subnet as the server I have no problems with Firefox 1.5RC1. Now that I am outside that network and connecting via another ISP it is no longer completing the text area again. Not sure what to think of that! Tried turning off the Firewall portion of my router and that made no impact. Again, going back to earlier versions and things work just fine.

I have the same problem. I was using FF 1.5 beta 2 on Windows 2000 in combination with Mambo 4.5.2.3 and now Joomla 1.0.3. Mosce showed weird behaviour and sometimes the intro text just went lost whenever I edited an article again.

Now I am on Ubuntu 5.10 (so Debian) with the latest mosce and Joomla, plus Firefox 1.5 Release Candidate 1. It 'd be great if somebody could come up with a workaround because this is indeed highly annoying and we are forced to use the fat Mozilla suite to edit articles.

I just tried Firefox 1.5 beta 3 for Mac OS X and I can see the text for a second before the editor loads, but then it is gone. If you click to see source, it is not there either. I tried bypassing my router in case its Firewall might be doing something, but there was no change. Have gone back to version 1.0.7 since it is stable. 1.5 beta 1 works, but will start flaking out after some period of use.

See also this thread: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,18777.0.html

I believe this is an urgent matter that should be taken up by the community. As been said, Firefox 1.5 seems to have issues with Joomla and the default editors (also Mosce). I have no idea myself what is causing this behaviour so I think some developers should take a serious look at this since Firefox users risk having a lot of problems as soon as FF 1.5 is declared stable and the problem has not been fixed.

I don't have the technical knowledge to investigate this further so I hope somebody else can do this! 8)

Firefox 1.5 released

Yesterday Firefox 1.5 was officially released. A happy day for Firefox users, a sad day for Firefox users who use Joomla to manage their website --> it has become impossible to put anything in a text box with the latest Firefox, that is, WYSIWYG mode does not work!  :'(

Has anybody any ideas as to what the problem is? I use visual inline editors in Sugar (htmlArea) and PHPList (fckeditor) and neither of them have this problem. But with Joomla using every editor I try it will not work. Last tested with Firefox 1.5 final, Joomla 1.0.4 and mosCE 1.0.3. This problem started with Firefox 1.5 beta 2.

I have a solution, it may not be the right one but it works.

I start FF in Safemode and I can edit, in normal mode it is invisable, I think it has to do with profiles, start a new profile and you can edit, not sure why this is but it is a fix.

This option did not prove successful in my tests. It prompted me to go as far as to remove all Firefox extensions one at a time to see if they had any impact and I never did see a change for me.

If anyone with this problem wants to post a live url - and perhaps create a test account that has access to a 'front end' page with an editor that displays the problem I will take a look. I have a hunch based on problems with embedded non-printing characters in javascript - line breaks etc embedded within strings.

example

variable1 = " something
here that should all be one line";

Depending upon what character causes the 'line break' I have found some problems occur, and they can be pretty intractable to dig out and verify.

So a test account - with a front end 'submit news' page that displays the problem and that is not caused by anything already covered in my post on 'Admin Menus' in the FAQs forum. I will even go as far as to install Firefox 1.5 and risk my own work machine in an attempt to get to the bottom of this one.

Dean.

I think the problem is with TinyMCE.

Recently the stable version 2.0 was released, and in the release notes it says among others:
The release of Firefox 1.5 resulted in new bugs and issues with TinyMCE so the 1.xx versions isn't very compatible with this browser.

So, I guess upgrading TinyMCE in Joomla will do the trick.

The note concerning TInyMCE is interesting. I normally use mosCE which is based on it. I have TMEdit installed which doesn't work either. I have set up a Joomla site to test with if that is at all of benefit, but perhaps this note of TinyMCE is right on track. At any rate:

user: admin
pw: admin

Running on Mac OS X 10.4.3, PHP 4.3.11, MySQL 5.0.16.

Downloaded TinyMCE 2.0 from their website http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/tiny ... or=surfnet

And copied the files over the files in the /mambots/editors/mosce/jscripts/tiny_mce section. Probably copied too many files (lots of languages) but the problem with Firefix 1.5 is over!!!

Cheers, Eric

For the record they recommend removing the old tinymce because of the hierarchy of the js
