Thank you!  At last, and such a simple fix! 

One question, though, -- why would the livesite in configuration.php be wrong in the first place?  (I haven't edited it at all.)  Is that something I did wrong with the initial installation?

What was the problem in the configuration.php file?  $mosConfig_live_site?  What was the value that was in there?

Sorry, yes, I should have said. 

As Brian surmised, it was a missing / at the end of the livesite.  I don't remember being prompted to add that through the install screens, so probably I just had it as http://www.mysite.com when I filled in the forms during installation.

This is strange, because a trailing slash on the mosconfig_live_site normally causes problems. It should NOT be there...

iirc there can also be an issue if you give your links as www and not http://

I'm getting this problem, I've followed this thread, tried adding the / at the end of the livesite, still no joy. 

Any other suggestions please?

I was having this problem as well (using JCE editor) and all I had to do was add http:// in the beginning of my links and trailing slash at the end, then they showed up fine!

I still have this problem on one site in 1.0.12.
