Domain and Logo request

Post by maksym » Tue Feb 23, 2016 9:26 pm

hi,

we want to submit our extensions on JED and we want to obtain a license to use the word "Joomla" in an extension name or domain name.

based on article - http://extensions.joomla.org/support/kn ... checklists - somewhere 1 month ago we have send email to http://opensourcematters.org/legal/trad ... quest.html - but no one is answering .... is it correct place to contact OSM?

Thank you very much,
Maksym.

This is the right and only place to do so: http://opensourcematters.org/contact-us ... -team.html

Major Joomla extension companies such as RSJoomla and JoomlaWorks have Joomla in their domain, so it's very possible to have that once you get the permission from OSM.

hi,

please, can anyone answer from joomla trademark team?
i was answered only once on 1-st March - and the answer was:
You do not have a functioning website for us to check.
dont know what to say .... how they cant access our website ....

please anyone from trademark team check our "Domain Use request".

Thank you very much,
Maksym.

It is also possible to have a Domain name with the word 'joomla' in it without getting permission from OSM. What the consequences (of creating a Domain name with the word 'joomla' in it) would be will remain unknown unless
Some one creates a Domain name with the word 'joomla' in it (without getting permission from the OSM) ... and describes what (if anything) happened when they did.
or
The OSM make an official statement of what they would do if someone did it without their permission.

I have never seen anything about the OSM taking someone to court ... for creating a Domain name with the word 'joomla' in it ... without having permission from the OSM to do so.

Perhaps nobody has dared do it without permission from the OSM in fear that they would have their extensions bared from JED ?
or
Perhaps it is perfectly legal to create (without OSM permission) a Domain name with the word 'joomla' in it ... and the OSM have no legal right to prevent it ?

An official statement by the OSM that they would make a legal a legal challenge against anyone (who created a Domain name with the word 'joomla' in it without gaining permission) ... would help make things clear.

than you very much for attention ..

yes, maybe that will never happen (no one wants that), but they wont never accept extensions on JED, which developers are using "joomla" word in their domain name without OSM permission. I agree what they are doing, and its correct tactic to protect Joomla! brand.

but they are answering too slow ... also as i see, it takes too much time to submit/approve 1 simple extension (minimum 21 days... somewhere i read about it...).

OSM, please charge us (developers), for example 1 dollar from developer (maybe for paid extensions ..), or something like that, so you could hire staff which will work on that "approve/reject" job ... maybe stupid idea, but dont know ... they took a lot of time to respond on mail .....

Best Regards,
Maksym.

Hi Maksym,

we have a lot of request to be processed.
We try to respond before the end of this week.

At the moment we are working on the new Trademark website. The new website contains a ticket system so we have a beter and hopefully a faster workflow :-)
