Ahhhh... after much puttering around.. it wasn't a code issue. it was my 'newsflash' module. it took the latest content and put it there and it happened that the latest content i uploaded was the podcast.

:-[

thanks!

for I-MAG and others who may be looking for the modified podcast suite bot that includes dewplayer: the bot is attached to the very first article in this thread (the tutorial), but since several folks have asked about it recently, i'm adding it here, too. :)

I love using the Dewplayer but unfortunately the "embed" tag isn't valid code.

As far as I know the only way to use Flash and make it valid is to pretty much hack the code, but I was wondering if there was a way to modify the code to make it valid.

Thanks for all of your hard work; this is a great addition to the suite.

I've searched for help with my problem with no luck so far.  I just started using the podcast suite and love it so far.  Great work!

My last show added isn't showing up in podcatchers.  It looks fine on the website.  I've tried itunes and Outlook and neither one are showing the last show.  Any ideas for me?  Thanks in advance!

Dear all,
first of all thanks for making a very good component! everything works fine.

But... is there anyone who has an idea on how to see how many people actually use the feed in Itunes?

Thanks

Hello Tizod,

I just checked your website (http://www.christianfp.com/joomla/conte ... ry/27/120/) and I noticed that you have the short player (not dewplayer) and it expands when a user clicks on play; and that people can download the MP3 files. Can you kindly tell me how did you make that. I especially need that short player bar and also to offer the option to download the mp3 files.

I will really appreciate your help.

Thanks

Have you seen this new pluggin http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/?

I think it would be amazing if it could be used with this component.

I have tryed by in podcast settings, setting the "Html code" an in the "Enclosure Code" field writting the mambot code for this other video player, but it seems on this field mambots doesn´t work!!

If we just could make mambots work on this field, we could make them work together!

Great component!  Something I have been looking to incorporate into my site, but I do have some problems.

First, in the settings, I only see a box.  Is this a place where I enter code?

Second, here is a copy of my feed link:

http://joeprah.com/index2.php?option=co ... &no_html=1

A couple issues here, first it does not play the file at iTunes.  Second, in the RSS feed notation it has this:

Thanks for the help.

Hello!
I have installed the modified version of LeBlanc's Podcast Suite v.1.1 with great success.  That is: almost!  I did choose Flash Player (step 4) which should change the player to a not-autoplaying dewplayer.  However, the case is that the interrupting autoplay is still there.  I have 3 different mp3-files uploaded now, and when clicking on the audio link menu 3 different mp3-files play at the same time.  What a noise!  So what can I do to stop the autoplay?
Is there anybody out there who has experienced the same problem, and what did you do to solve it and disable the autoplay function?

I would be so glad if you let me know.

Jo

Problem solved!!

jos_content had the old files listed as content in the site. Removed them and it works a treat!

The component keeps putting in old filenames!

I had a file Podcast#1.mp3 and got errors. So i renamed it Podcast1.mp3 and republished.

Now the xml inserts file entries for Podcast#1.mp3 AND Podcast1.mp3. Even when I edit the xml directly, it reverts.

I think it works great. Only issue I'm thinking about is how can I track the amount of listeners... anyone an idea?

Isn't the number of downloads in the Db?

It definitely is in your logfiles.

The RSS module that shows the latest audio files added won't work.
I get a message that I should change the permissions.
What folders should I change and to what permission in order to make it work?

Thanks.

Hi. This tutorial was exactly what I was looking for, as another admin for our site was the one to install the podcast mambot. I have a question, though, that I can't seem to find an answer to. I'm using Firefox and the podcasts autostart on my page, which is highly annoying! I looked at the php file and I saw a line of code about autostarting, but it was set to "false." So, I'm not sure... what can I do to keep the podcast from autostarting? The url is http://my.nycwp.net.

Thanks!

Hi,

Thanks for this tutorial, and bot, they are great. I might be missing something, but how can people actually download the individual mp3's? I am going to put this out there regardless, but I also know that people are going to want to download the files individually, so they can listen to them on their own devices.

Hello all,

I am an absolute NOOBIE to everything related to websites, but through these wonderful forums I am finding my way around. I cannot give enough notes of appreciation for this podcast component and module. It is great, but I am having trouble submitting my podcast to iTunes.

When I copy and paste my feed into the iTunes "podcast Feed URL" (found at: http://icrtransform.com/index2.php?opti ... &no_html=1 )

I receive this error from iTunes: "We experienced a timeout connecting to this feed at this time. Read timed out"

Can anyone please help? The module feed is found in the context of my web page at: http://icrtransform.com/index.php?optio ... Itemid=297

I have read everything on this forum and followed the tutorial dozens of times (even uninstalling the component and starting all over again). I can receive the feed through iGoogle and My Yahoo, but not iTunes. PLEASE HELP!!!!

Thank you in advance. :(

I recently installed this wonderful podcast component and everything seems to work great (I have not tried setting up iTunes yet) except for the Flash Player...there is no sound; but the text link seems to work fine.

Here is a link. If you click on the text link, the podcast work fine. If you click on the Flash Player, there is no sound.

Any suggestions?

Thank you so much.

for JBM -

okay, looking at the code on your source page (below), something's wrong with how the player is trying to call the audio file. this bit of your code should be calling an audio (e.g., MP3 or WAV) file, but is instead pointing to a PNG image file:

Code: Select all

music.swf?url=http://community.groupbenefitagency.com/images/stories/podcast1.png
it should actually look something like this (taken from my site at SavingCivilization.org:

Code: Select all

dewplayer.swf?son=http://www.savingcivilization.org/podcasts/podcast-009.mp3
also, just for reference, the whole code segment from your page is this:

Code: Select all

<embed wmode="transparent" src="http://community.groupbenefitagency.com/components/com_podcast/music.swf?url=http://community.groupbenefitagency.com/images/stories/podcast1.png&mode=play&autostart=false" autostart="false" mode="play" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="150" height="50"><param name="autostart" value="false">
so, my first suggestion would be to double-check the code in the Podcast Settings->Enclosure Code, as i assume you put custom code in there?

hope that helps! :-)

okay, i took a look at this and i think the problem may be with your web host's setup. when i click on the link to your feed --

Code: Select all

http://icrtransform.com/index2.php?option=com_podcast&feed=RSS2.0&no_html=1
-- i get the following error in the web browser:

Code: Select all

Fatal error: mime_magic could not be initialized, magic file c:\php\magic.mime is not available in //frigga\home\users\web\b2008\ph.d30048800\components\com_podcast\podcast.php on line 341
what should happen is that you should get an RSS feed page, depending on how your browser is set up (e.g., it should list the chapters/podcasts/articles). so i think itunes was trying to find your feed, but timed out because it couldn't get past this error from the server.

so, check with your web host and make sure the "magic.mime" file is installed (i have no idea what that does, but it's obviously missing), and hopefully that'll do the trick! 8)

cheers,

as far as i'm aware, the only way to do this would be to add an actual URL/link to the audio file in the content item when you add the enclosure information for the podcast suite. that way they could play it directly or right click & save, etc. :)

did you find the answer to this? also, it may just be my browser (firefox), but it looks like the layout to your site may be broken - the modules that should be "inside" the main table/div seem to be stuck out to the right, making for a really wide display...? :eek:

hey, did you get this sorted out? if not, please check the permissions for your cache directory and the podrss20.xml file - both should be 777. then check the directory you designated as storage for your podcasts in the podcast setup - that also should be 777.

hope that helps! :)

Mike, thank you so much for your reply. I do not have any custom code in Settings>Enclosure Code, as a matter of fact, the Enclosure Code is empty.

I corrected the mistake and now as you can see the file is correct but it's still not playing...what am I doing wrong?

2 problems - Version 1.1 Stable on Joomla! 1.0.15

Problem 1 - Part Way Solved See below

When publishing a new podcast I get a strange error from the RSS feed that is not allowing the feed to become readable by iTunes. I entered the URL manually into iTunes to check in addition to viewing it in a browswer.

The specific error that comes up is:

This page contains the following errors:

error on line 2 at column 1: Extra content at the end of the document
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.

When I go to view the source of the page I see this at the top:

Code: Select all

<br />
<b>Notice</b>:  Undefined offset:  1 in <b>/var/www/vhosts/website.com/httpdocs/components/com_podcast/podcast.php</b> on line <b>335</b><br />
<br />
<b>Notice</b>:  Undefined offset:  2 in <b>/var/www/vhosts/website.com/httpdocs/components/com_podcast/podcast.php</b> on line <b>335</b><br />
So when I go to /components/com_podcast/podcast.php this is what it has on line 335:

Code: Select all

if(!$paramarray[1] && !$paramarray[2]){  // we just have a filename
To get the feed to show up with no errors I just deleted line 335 and deleted the "}" at line 352. I have no idea what that does but it fixed it. BUT, now the feed doesn't show the MP3 file to download.

Full Feed: http://www.buckeyesportsmanlive.com/ind ... &no_html=1

Problem 2

The strangest thing has happened. When I add more than 1 iTunes Category in the Component Settings I get the following error on my RSS feed.

This page contains the following errors:

error on line 2 at column 1: Extra content at the end of the document
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.

The two categories that I am specifically setting are:
1. Sports & Recreation < Outdoor
2. Games & Hobbies

BUT

If I change the second category to
2. Art < Design

Everything on the RSS feed is just fine! I don't get it at all. Something is up with how Podcast component is handling iTunes categories. Other than that I LOVE the Podcast Suite!!!!!

There seems to be a problem with the code at the bottom of page: components/com_podcast/feedcreator.class.php

Code: Select all

function makeitCategory($cat)
{
	if($cat == '')
		return '';

	list($parent, $child) = explode(' > ', $cat);

	if($child == '')
	{
		$tags = '        <itunes:category text="'. utfCleanText($parent) .'" />' . "\n";
	}
	else
	{
		$tags = '        <itunes:category text="'. utfCleanText($parent) .'">' . "\n";
		$tags .= '               <itunes:category text="'. utfCleanText($child) .'" />' . "\n";
		$tags .= '        </itunes:category>';
	}

	return $tags;
}
