This module has been moved to the 1.5 documentation area and the changelog updated.

This module is ready to be reviewed by a fresh pair of eyes.

Tweek paragraph 4
The word 'position' is to be changed to whichever position you define on this page. (For more advanced techniques, see the the Development manual.)

Should that not be 'Developer Manual'?

and in Ch8 Developers Manual likewise should be 'Developer Manual' - consistency makes things easier.

cheers,

Russell

Hi aWordinyourEar,

Thanks for the comments.
"Tweek paragraph 4" : This has been done.

"and in Ch8 Developers Manual likewise should be 'Developer Manual'"
This is Chapter 8 where ?

Thanks for the "keen" eyes. Feel free to proof as many documents as you like.

Minor typos and changes suggested:

The Module Positions page allows you to edit or enhance the naming of module positions used in your templates. To access the page, in the administrative area select “Extensions => Templates” to bring up the Template Manager. Once the manager is loaded select “Manage Positions” from the Navigation Menu.

Joomla!'s default positions come pre-configured with every site installation and in general it is unlikely you would need to change these. However should you need to configure your own custom positions, this can be easily accomplished. Simply type in a new position name or modify an existing one. You may also enter an associated description, but this is optional. Finally click the Save button.

Note: Only alphanumeric characters are supported for position names. By convention lower case letters are used but you are free to adopt any naming convention you require.

To use a module position in your template, insert the code snippet below, in your template php, at the location you want the module displayed.

The word 'position' refers to the name of the Position you want to use as detailed on the “Manage Positions” page described above. (For more advanced techniques, see the Developer manual.)

To see a visual representation of your template and the layout of the positions used, go to the Template Manager. In the Navigation menu select “Site”. A list of installed templates are displayed. Select the template you are interested in by clicking on the template's name. Click the Preview menu button to view.

Hi,

I am confused by one element of this discussion. From what I can gather, what is being changed is not *positions,* but the *names* of positions. Am I correct? I would imagine that only a template can actually change positions? (A "position" is a *place*, a location, and a place can have a  name.

Am I correct in this? Wouldn't take much to make it clear, if I am getting it; just use the term, "Position Name." ?

For Joomla 1.0.11 look for admin Site > Template Manager > Module Positions.  I just spent 15 minutes looking for it since the 1.0.11 help page does not contain this info.

Kwak--

Sorry for being so "green" - but *where* is this new position? Where in the "screenspace"?

TIA,

Christian

Christian,

"Site > Preview > Inline with Positions" will show where they are located in the template layout.  New positions will not show up util they are added to the template.
