Error in Documentation Header
The header in the User Manual Version 1.0.1 pages 21 to 32 is incorrect. It shows Chapter 3: Joomla Users instead of Chapter 2: Getting Started.
This is minor but it certainly made me think I was missing Chapter 2.
THANK for the documentation guys, so far it has been well worth downloading and well written.

Group ID
This section on User Groups: http://help.joomla.org/content/view/228/153/1/2/ should include a link or info on locating Group ID numbers.

Re: Group ID
If I read this correct you are referring to the MySQL Group ID's...thenewbreed wrote: This section on User Groups: http://help.joomla.org/content/view/228/153/1/2/ should include a link or info on locating Group ID numbers.
The intention of this page is as general background information of the day to day Front-end and Back-end access levels and permissions of the Joomla! installation, rather than getting into the database access/control. Otherwise the same considerations would have to be applied to all the programming and development issues/links that may arise. That is outside of the scope of the current work.
The Dev site http://dev.joomla.org/ is the place for in-depth considerations of the underlying ACL Groups within PHP/MySQL.

Re: Group ID
I see your point. However, a Joomla newbie searching for an answer for this type of question might not necessarily realise the nuances of database vs Joomla etd. Doing a simple search for "group id" would bring up this article that involves the concept of different groups in Joomla. Therefore, there should at least be a paragraph and a link to the relevant information.

Since you have a clear idea of what it should say, what you think makes most sense. Just write a quick note/paragraph and we will include it in the documentation. User Manual 1.0.11 - Suggestions, Modifications, and Corrections [Merged Thread]
Note: This is currently being developed...i am adding to this post daily, and will notify when it's ready for action (or you can remove items if they've been fixed, i suppose) But i just don't want to loose this stuff (happened to me before!)
page 16, paragraph 1:Also, other members of the Joomla!
Documentation Team: Michelle (Michelle Bisson), Jennifer (visionspin), Brian (usagi), and
Richard (rdb) for their encouragement.
page 18, last sentence:

page 19, last sentence of 'objectives of the....Manual' section:
Nor do we go into detail about PHP, MySQL, or other essential software that you need to have some understanding.
page 19, first sentence of 'how to use...'
The Joomla! User Manual follows the installation process, the types of users Joomla! has, and Front-end through to Back-end functionality.
page 20, third paragraph from bottom:

page 21, second paragraph under 'Installing Joomla!, Getting the Files':
We have thoroughly tested Joomla! on: Linux, Free BSD, Mac OS X, and Windows NT/2000.
page 28, last paragraph
You then have a choice of two buttons. One View Site will take you to your Joomla! Site (Front-end); the other Administrator to the Site Administrator Login screen (Back-end). If this is your first installation, we recommend that you click the View Site button.
page 29, second paragraph under Figure 14:
If this is not your first time then you will know what to do next. If not., Rread on!
page 30, first paragraph under Templates:
The template and its associated files provide the visual ‘look and feel’ of your web site and are maintained separately from the web site content. This is stored in a MySQL database. what was that supposed to mean?
page 31, Modules, last sentence:

Re: [Review] Access Levels
Hi,
Can I jump in and post my 2 cents?
Access level "Special" equals the Author and Publisher groups, so the behaviour this user is describing is actually correct.
Regards Robin

Hi Robin,
Yep, I agree. It is the User Manual that is wrong, hence why I have made a x-reference to it here so that I remember to change it when the time comes.
Thanks
Andy

Re: User Manual 1.0.11 - Suggestions, Modifications, and Corrections [Merged Thread]
Hi Andy.
Only remember two suggestions:
1) Merge Appendix B ("Back-end Menu Options") and Appendix E ("Joomla! Site Map" => Note: This must be Back-end Map) into a complete and simplified "Joomla! Back-end Map".
2) Reorganize Appendix C ("Menu Items Parameters") by classifying the items parameters descriptions by type:
- Menu Items: Common Parameters
- Menu Items: Content Blogs Parameters
- Menu Items: Content Tables Parameters
- Menu Items: Links Parameters
- Menu Items: Components Parameters
- Menu Items: wrapper Parameters
Regards
Leandro

Re: User Manual 1.0.11 - Suggestions, Modifications, and Correct
Based on the problem and solution below, maybe the manual should include something about ensuring that the correct PHP version is being used.
I used Fantastico to install Joomla 1.5.1. Tried to install a template or component such as SOBI2. At this point either nothing installs and the page simply refreshes, or you get a message saying "Error! Could not find a Joomla! XML setup file in the package."
After trying to find a solution on the forums at Joomla.com, I also made a few other changes to the Global Configuration, including turning on Legacy, toggling FTP Settings on and off and changing the Session Settings to 90 minutes. I changed the permission on the "tmp" folder to 777.
I sent this information to my hosting company Siteground and they fixed the problem and responded in about 5 minutes:
SOLUTION BY SITEGROUND:
Set the php version on your account to php 5.0 as explained here:

On this page - http://help.joomla.org/content/view/59/153/ the first image for "modules" relating to positions is throwing up a page error/unavailable link. The other image link is fine.
