We indeed had a series of very nice proposals this year, and the collection of projects that have been accepted are very promising. We will send out at least a blog on current status, projects selected etc. etc. A first congratulation to the students that have been accepted!

I'm really excited about many of these projects. Its so great to see people getting the opportunity to tackle some of the big issues or topics that will require a good deal of research and evaluation first. Not just strait code slogs. Browsing through other projects lists it is suprising to see how "basic" some of the ideas are.

I guess it depends on how you look at the SoC. Is it an opportunity to get paid development time for something that would be done anyway  or a bigger opportunity to work on things that may not hvae happened otherwise.

I mean how many templates d you really need.

Nicely said Brian.

The mentor team feels the same. We believe that the summer of code should be a challenge for both the student and it's mentor. This year we received a little more then 80 project proposals. The 9 projects that where selected by the team of mentors where selected based on the quality of the proposal and the initial communications we had with the students. It's not the quantity that counts, it's the quality of the experience the student will have.  We feel that 10 projects is the maximum we can manage. It's now up to the students, the mentors and the community to make good things happen.

I was actually really suprised at some of the proposals that google were prepare to pay for. If they are supporting template design this year maybe next year they will support documentation

Thanks for that link, hope to see a more extensive review of those cool-looking projects and students now that easter hollidays are over... Can't wait to see all these ideas make their way into J!, hope some of last years still are on the list to core. Sounds like 2007 is again a good joomla year ;)
